For years, I used a bottom-weighted trash bin in an older RX. It sat comfortably on the flat area behind the front seat console, between back seat passenger “footwells” (in quotes because the entire back seat floor area was flat, edge-to-edge).
Since the center of the back seat footwell is raised in the 2024 RX, the trash bin constantly tumbles over. I don’t want to set it in either footwell (who wants to play footsie with dirty tissues and power bar wrappers?).
Any suggestions for an alternative trash bin? Options? Ideas?
Doesn't that placement block access to the rear seat HVAC controls? Most of them hang from the front headrest. where you want to place it - appears to be something like the one below, but you would have to measure for size and see if the strap has a path through the back of the center console lid to be attached.

You’re absolutely right—definitely wouldn’t want one that hangs from the center console for that reason (besides, the construction of the 2024 console and design of its bi-directional lid probably negate the option).
I’ll look at the bins that dangle from the headrest but was hoping to avoid encroaching on the passenger’s personal space in the back seat. Might need to look for the type of bin my parents had in the 1990s with sandbags that straddled the floor hump, provided I can find a bin with the right dimensions to match the hump.
Who knew trash disposal could be so fraught with challenges? :::laughing:::
My solution was to put a small steel plate within a ziplock bag, then inside a trash bin. Works great, the steel plate is very heavy and this will not tip over, even if bumped by anyone sitting in the middle.
Here is a link to the trash bin;

Oooooh, you have my wheels spinning (no pun intended). Mind if I ask where one might purchase a steel plate?
I forget - does the Gen 5 still have the metal bars under the left and right rear seats? If it does you could probably tie off a trash container similar to the prior photo with a bungee running through a vertical fabric strip on the container. No chunk of steel required.
OP, I would try some velcro tape strips on the bottom of the bag and floor mat/carpet. Should hold in place nicely and be removable.
One side of the velcro sticks nicely to carpet. If you choose the rubber mat, that would work as well for a small lightweight trash bag.
Another option is to place a pound or two of sand in a zip lock bag and place in bottom of trash bag to weight it down.
Excellent suggestions. I already have a roll of 1" wide industrial strength velcro tape. I'll give that a whirl first, then try sandbags if a second attempt is needed (or both, who knows?).
