Car has 13000 miles and dealer says drain line clogged. Mold and water damage. Wants me to report to auto insurance to cover $15 in damages. This car is still fairly new! I'm so upset.
Do you often travel with dogs? Pet hair is the most common cause of clogged A/C condensate drains IME. Need to be aware of this, so that the drain can be inspected on routine services (such as cabin filter inspection).
BTW, our RX seems to drain the A/C near the RH rocker panel, instead of into the engine bay somewhere.

This is something Lexus has known about for years, in fact part of the PDI is they use that little squeeze bottle of the stuff into drain to make sure it is clear. That stuff cost like $3 dollars, you think every time they service it they would ask you to do it knowing it is an issue.
He means 15K, as they need to tear down the whole interior of the car down to frame with no interior to wipe it with some anti mold. Honestly if it doesn't smell, I would just dry it out and then always stay on top of it with this stuff.
Unless the vehicle shows other signs of abuse (which I doubt) I would think Lexus would fix as a matter of good faith. Seems strange that this new a vehicle with so few miles would have a clog like that. If so, it should have been caught on one of the 'free' initial service visits. Would not be surprised if the drain was never installed properly and the dealer just doesn't want to deal with it.
Armix is the stuff, it is what in the picture. Don't know exactly how they insert it thought to get into tube. I will ask next service as maybe you can do yourself. I know they do same process with Audi and they do it as regular service as they also had issue with sunroof as well draining.
I never had an issue with sunroof drains on any car I ever owned.
I am curious if this is more an east coast thing with all the rain and leaves as I have never heard anyone I know speak of this issue in California.
I keep my cars clean and garaged. But I can imagine parking on the street with all the gunk and grime could increase chance of having some drain clogged.
Spider web? WTH, how long do cars sit without use?
Here good video that shows you where the drains are and even with regular roof they located in from left and right and rear as well. All you do is take bottle water pour it in sunroof track and if it drains under call all good, do it to all 4 holes, the rear holes you will be able to get to just pour water in that direction.
This is the TSB for this, but the last issue revision seems to be 2021 - there doesn't seem to be a version covering our 5th gen RXes. Still, I am going to bring this to the dealer tomorrow and ask them to inspect it, if not apply it if applicable to the 5th gen RX:
So I got the answer today coming back from service. I showed them the TSB. My car, delivered in June 2023, had that TSB applied to it before delivery. All the 2023 RXes, at least at my dealer, had it applied. I had them verify it was applied today, and it is. So the original poster here, and anyone else verifying the status of this issue - should ask their dealer if this TSB was applied to their RXes before delivery.
