5th gen RX merged rumor and launch threads

Well, that would just make them stupid and I’ve never thought of them in that way before so I highly doubt they would be laughing anything off. Overlooking one’s competition is not what Japanese automakers do.

I called my dealer yesterday, who said they don't know anything yet, but the 2023 cars won't arrive until next year.
My wife's 2019 RX350 lease is up in November this year, so either we'll look at something else, or buy this one and wait to see what 2023 brings. (Of course, my real preference is buy this one and keep it another 3-5 years, but the woman who's NEVER had a brand new car before this one now has to have a new one every 3-4 years )
One recent article says they will be all hybrids, with a 4cyl hybrid, a turbo 4 hybrid and a turbo 4 plugin. All speculation of course.
My wife does most of her driving on the highway, so a hybrid will never pay off. If that's really what they do, I'll suggest we look elsewhere.

There are other perks of a hybrid: the brakes last a long time, many systems are electronic and there are less belts to maintain.

Thanks... My wife drives 15 miles on the parkway and 5 miles of suburban roads, each way. The traffic is usually pretty decent. She uses her car for errands, so that's some suburban in-town on weekends, and we take her car whenever we go somewhere together because she doesn't like my GTI. So it makes a number of weekend trips to VT, which is highway and mountain back roads.
She likes leasing, so replacing brakes and belts etc doesn't happen for us. I'd much rather own it for 200K. I'm shooting for 300+ on my GTI (long way to go).
The difference between 22mpg and 40mpg for 45K mi is $4200 at $4.50/gal. I'll have to look up lease costs for RX350 vs RX450, but I don't think that will pay off. If gas goes up more, that helps. Of course there are non-financial benefits to getting better mpg too.

Yes, I agree with all the benefits. The very smooth CVT, the greater torque and acceleration, the greater horsepower, much better AC, and quietness are extremely nice surprises. I get shocked when the dealer loans me a gas model and forget the gas model is missing all these nice benefits. When I bought mine, a comparably equipped gas model was under $4k less. Looking at a Toyota RAV4 for my wife a couple of years ago, the price of a hybrid was $2k more than comparable equipped gas model. In 4 years, I have more than broke even with gas savings on the RX450h.

Looks kinda small to be the RX. I have a feeling it's the RZ450e test mule, which is closer to the NX in size.
Edit: on second look, the closeup at 4:10 shows a cutout for a gas fill cap, so it might be the RX after all since the RZ is BEV only.

Looks like the sides have been smoothed out and went back to the back side window looking like the 3rd gen, instead of the 'floating roof' design of the current RX. Hopefully more leaked images and info coming soon. Maybe reveal at the NAIAS which will be in September?

I dunno -- the front & grill of the car shown at 0:30 is not even close to the front of the blue car shown at 0:39. And is the famous "spindle" really going poof on both ends? This may be a "creative work" rather than a "leak".

Just read a post on the NX forum, where a member appears to be an employee in Cambridge. He states Gen 5 RX preproduction has commenced. I've asked for some feedback, including engines being installed (4 VS V6). Let's see what he has to say.

Hopefully we still have V6 for some model, like RX 500h

Just heard back. So far it's just the body itself (body in white I think they call it) they have built. Guess they are proving out the press tooling for the sheet metal and perhaps the welding at this point, but just a guess on my part. Appears they haven't started assembling the trim yet.
