Well, in my opinion, a turbocharged 4 banger isn't ideal. Every time I drive one, the amount of foot into it required for equivalent go ends up dropping the mileage to the same or worse than a V6. They are also noisier and not as smooth as a V6. Can be convinced, but for now, not excited about that.
Visually, it appears to be evolutionary as opposed to revolutionary, which is good. Gen 3 to 4 was a big leap. This one may be less so. But a lot of that image could be "rendered" from the LF1, so I'm not convinced this is a real image.

Disappointing. A 2.4 turbo hybrid is decidedly uninteresting. The plan is to drive the V6 for several more years. My next vehicle will be a EV. Perhaps by 2030 Teslas won't be so Soviet-ugly. Lucid, are you listening???

Very elegant and soft lines with just enough bold design features to make it pop and look distinctively lexus, and beautiful.
Looks great now, but will probably look dated sooner than the 4th gen as those elegant soft line are a bit generic. It does not help that those bold distinctive feature will soon be on so many of the cars on the road. Because so many of the cars on the road are Toyota and Lexus ( at least where I'm from)
The difference between the 4th and 5th gen seems just a bit more than the difference between f10 5 series and g30 5 series. It makes the 4th feel "current". And that's good, because I intend on keeping my 2017 for a long time to come unless due to circumstances out of my control. In which case I would replace it with the newest RX ( we do plan to add a new MDX or QX60 to the family next year though)
I also wouldn't mind an I-4 engine that much if it's smooth quiet, and durable. DIY the spark plugs would be so much easier, I might just do them every 60k as per the manual instead of 120k

The engine choices definitely is one of the big changes beside the styling. Maybe it will have the new 2022 NX features then.

It appears most automakers are heading towards turbo and Toyota/Lexus is also jumping on the bandwagon. I'm not a fan of turbo engines even though it outputs more power and probably saves gas given it's longevity from repairs. The Lexus LS500 has a Twin-Turbo V6 engine Consumer Reports rated it really bad for it's turbo reliability (engine major and engine minor).

Turbos have always been a stop-gap/Cheap way to add hp while developing a new engine.
Today they are there to give power to an anemic engine that nobody would buy if not turbo-aided, all in the name of economy

Not heard of any issues with the NX turbo motor that's been around now since model year 2015, so I don't think reliability is the issue. Premium fuel, turbo lag and the amount of fuel used to get the equivalent driving experience of a V6 for me is the primary concern. Can be convinced as I doubt Lexus would mess up it's best selling vehicle. Let's see when it's released.

Anyone else struggling with deciding whether or not to buy the current gen model vs waiting for the new one? Really want the 450h, not excited about turbo engine and all digital display (prefer hard buttons at least for some controls) seen in the new nx which will probably cross over into the rx

You could always get one now and do a short 2 year lease. The current RX 2021/2022 are the best ones ever built.

Nope, I just traded my 2016 NX for a 2021 RX 450H. I prefer to wait on new models after they have been out 4 years or more, after the refresh and updates, etc. that are lacking/missing when they first come out. Timing does not always work out for me though.
