That said, C&D reviews every product like its a sports car - and buyers in this segment aren't, for the most part, buying a performance car.
wow, that's totally different from most of the RX350H Youtube videos I've seen so far. I guess there might be a conflict of interest, Toyota was nice enough to fly these KOLs out to CA, and pay for the hotels and a few meals in exchange for a few nice Youtube videos/Ads, so these KOLs probably won't dare to say anything bad about the new RX or they won't get another free trip next time. We need to take whatever these KOLs are saying with a grain of salt.

Well, think about what the hybrid is doing under full acceleration - the non turbo engine is flat out, driving the front wheels as the weight unloads from the front end, to be made up only by the electric motors at the rear. I think the comment from C&D makes sense.

What 4cyl engine doesn't squeal when you floor it?

Actually in an AWD hybrid there are 2 driving electric motors. One in front and one in rear. under acceleration both these motors will be driving the respective wheels in addition to the 4 cylinder engine. Off the line or in passing when the engine RPM is low, electric motors create the necessary torque to move the car.

Admittingly I am not heavy footed, but I have no complaints about the hybrid drivetrain powering only front wheels on my ES300h. and the engine is not much louder than the V6 in my RX under full acceleration. The V6 certainly sounds better when revved, but they are probably close in noise level that comes through the cabin.

For the record, there are electric motors at both ends. Standard hybrid only adds the rear motor to make it “AWD”.

The comment section on C&D is brutal.

I've driven a lot of CVTs including my current 450h. I have no problem with the way it sounds under heavy or light acceleration. Or the electronic contribution the electric motor occasionally makes. To me it's all expected behavior.

Sometimes I think C&D and auto-reviewers in general carry on way to much about the sound a car makes under acceleration - as if anything less than a V8 note constitutes a problem. I don't buy a Lexus for the noise. I buy a Lexus for the absence of noise. I don't really care what noise the car has to make under hard acceleration because that's maybe less than 1% of my drive time. Moderate acceleration and cruising noise is far more important to me.

I get it some folks like sound and there is no judgement - but if that's a priority I would not be looking to a hybrid with a CVT to provide it.

FWIW, I've seen maybe 4-5 2023 RX350h reviews and no one has complained about the noise it makes. And they all think the acceleration is "adequate".

I've been waiting for the 5th gen and I feel the same about turbos. They tend to be rather whiny up to speed, less reliable, harder on engines and oil, require shorter OCI's, if it's a TDI even worse as fuel dilution becomes an issue. I appreciate the smoothness and reliability of the current V6.

I wonder when they will actually STOP making the 2022? They have to retool for the 2023. Will they be able to complete all orders ?

Well, since the 23’s will be on sale for the annual December to Remember event I would think the 22 line is either already closed or is close to shutting down for MY22. There should be some decent deals available starting in November or maybe earlier on the remaining 22’s.

With the minimal changes, you realize that all they have to do is slap a 2023 VIN on it, right? Not much re-tooling needed.

What are you talking about? 2023 RX is a redesign.

With every change all manufactures must re tool to make the new design so its definitely not just slapping on a 23 VIN as you call it.
