5th gen RX merged rumor and launch threads

Likely it will get the highlander hybrid nugget as base powertrain then the 450h of the NX as premium. People have thought in recent years OMG LEXUS USING V6 CUZ BELIEVE IN RELIABILITY. Nah, they're just recouping development cost while biding time and refining hybrids to haul heavier more luxurious vehicles. That's all. Lexus does extensive long term testing before employing new powertrains.
The dinosaur V6 can't really cope with performance or economy targets and the stepped automatic transmissions has been nothing but trouble for Lexus in terms of complaints of shifting harshness etc. All around good idea to get rid of it.
It's a new era to move towards electrification and the newest Lexus flagships will undoubtedly use professional electrified modern powertrains.

Correction:
I heard it will be a turbo v4 engine for 2023. Just check the reliability for those and you'll be happy to have a V6 Naturally Aspirated one.

Maybe the RX will still have some version of a V6? The Highlander still has a V6 in non-hybrid form and I believe the RX will be on the same platform. I can't see a 4 cyl in the RX while the Highlander still has a V6. Even if the HP/Torque is is higher, most people will just see a 4 vs. a V6 which could possibly hurt sales.

The turbo NX350 does 0-60 in 7.3sec which is quite slow. Hard to imagine RX getting that exact powerplant configuration with its extra weight, we'd be looking at 8 sec 0-60 which would be embarrassing. If it's the same motor it may be a twin small/big turbo to reduce off the line lag which must be the cause of the slow NX350 time since it has plenty of hp/torque.

It may be possible perhaps to go the way of Volvo with a supercharger for torque at low RPM and a supercharger for higher RPM, but all this will be more susceptible to malfunctions, breakdowns and more maintenance.
I think that Lexus to maintain the good reliability status will chose something simple, what will it be though?

Depending on your driving habits, and how well you follow the maintenance schedule will determine how long a 4cyl engine tasked by turbo boost will last.
Also 0-60 isn't all I'm concerned about. It's having the passing power on the interstate from 70-80 if needed. That's when you need those other (2) cylinders.
That was the deal breaker of not choosing the NX.
