I bought a new ES mid December, still waiting for second fob over 3 months later. Bought wife a new IS last month, still waiting for that second fob.

At least the ES also came with a wallet key card.

Edit: just spoke with dealer, guy said Lexus said it would start in April but didn’t sound convinced. Seems like he’s getting a lot of these calls.

I can't imagine how hopped up we'll all be when we hear of someone, anyone, getting a second key. We got our car a couple weeks ago, and the dealer said, without great conviction, that they hoped/expected the see the second keys in April/May.

Ouch! A few thoughts: first of all, this honestly isn’t an issue for me. I’m the only driver of my RX and the Digital Key IS my key. That being said, it’s seems suspicious that with all the electronics in a Lexus, this one minor part is the only thing subject to the waning chip shortage. And despite the fact that this isn’t an issue for me, I’m surprised at how poorly Lexus has handled this. Not all RXs (and other Lexi) have the Digital Key, but it seems that there are still those who do have it who still have issues getting it to work. A working Digital Key would make many (most?) new Lexus owners like me, relatively immune from issues involving the FOB shortage. Both the lack of urgency to make Digital Key flawless as well as the miscommunication about the second FOB are sadly uncharacteristic of Lexus, in a bad way.

A fob is still much faster than unlocking your phone, launching the app, and opening doors. Especially if you’re a family and the driver needs to unlock doors for wife and kids who are also approaching the car and probably don’t want to wait for me to get there and touch the door handle sensor. Especially in the rain.

What annoys me is Lexus continuing to sell new cars with fobs, while those of us who already bought a car must wait.

Well, they’re still selling with only 1 FOB. I
don’t think it’s reasonable to expect Lexus to shut down production and sales just so prior customers can get a second FOB. 🥴

Just bought a new RX 350 Premium + today, dealer confirmed only one key fob is provided with vehicle, no idea when the second fob will be despatched.

I guess I’ll try to be happy for them then. And maybe once the extra fobs are available they’ll be able to sell even more cars if they stick with one fob each, that would be wonderful for them!

That’s silly. Lexus hasn’t handled this well, but considering everything going on in the world, this is more or less a minor, temporary thing.

Ford is selling their Mustang ev with two fobs and has been doing so for over a year. Why is this an issue for Toyota but not Ford?

I guess because they have a chip supplier for their FOB who isn't producing enough parts, and they can't/won't redesign their FOB around different chips which are available.

Other brands delivering cars with only one fob for now include Jaguar, Porsche, Audi, and Land Rover. I'm too lazy to look up the rest although I did hear that some Dodge trucks and Buicks are coming with only one for now.
