Am well aware of both. They (dealership, the tech, the service writer) earn at a much higher hourly rate for customer work than warranty work also which many people don’t know. Which will make it even more painful for them to decline you when they say “sorry sir, we can’t program an unknown third party device related to vehicle security because of liability.”

How much you want to bet now?

edit: if the eBay fob looks identical to the real one and you don’t tell them, they would probably do it if their computer doesn’t alert them to it being an unofficial device

There are not a lot of vehicles that can only be programmed by a dealer. Mitsubishi is one, but I am not sure if that is the case with Lexus. Anyone know?

The frequencies and modulations look right, but it ain't cheap. Then again, what is an OEM fob costing these days?

One can get universal TPMS sensors that can clone your existing ones, so why not a fob?

Well I don't know about Lexus, but on an MB or a BMW its $400 (but that includes the dealer programming I imagine).

Techstream cable and a one day subscription to the TIS software should work

The OEM sure looks a lot nicer than the universal ones I’ve seen on Alibabba. It’s something you touch and carry every day and I personally like that Lexus made a quality fob that looks and feels great, kind of like a nice Colibri lighter from back in the day.

In fact I’m going to replace my house key with a nicer key just to class it up a bit i like the Lexus fob that much

Looks like OEM 2022 fobs are $100-150 if you search. And here's how to use Techstream SW to program it.
I can tell you that it is about $325 USD for a Mitsubishi key due to the dealer-only SW.

The FCC ID will confirm it if you search it.

Of course I checked it out. However, the window sticker AND the dealership promised I would receive the 2nd FOB in a month. This being my 4th RX, I had no reason to believe they weren't telling me the truth.

Other cars I looked at also appeared to be less capable and more cheaply built than preceding year models.

Before deliveries of the new RX were taking place, we tried to get a "what are you cross shopping" thread going. Pretty much came down to the MDX, and then the X5 and GLE (but both were more money). I know I looked at the new range rover sport, but it was $90K with an 18 month waiting list.

I was talking more about the Navigation and storage space. That would have been obvious.

Interesting, since they all are bigger. Would have thought more X3 and GLC.

Default Second key fob

Just talked to Lexus and ask when we might get our second fob. The very nice lady looked up our record and she said e should have gotten it in April, but there is a delay and now looks like it will be July. We took delivery in February.
