Driver Monitor questions

It doesn't speak it, it flashes the words on the multifunction display. I am not really reclined that much.

I just ignore the sit up message. My position doesn’t change when I’m driving long distance and I still get it occasionally. Did 160 miles today and it did it 3 times. All were relatively close together which makes me wonder if glare from the sun is part of the problem.

I see what causes this now - the action of looking down at the main gauge display itself, causes the message. So if you look down to check your fuel level or any of the things displayed there, this Sit Up message (which is also displayed there) pops up. Way too sensitive.

My new 2023 RX 350h just told me to "sit up" !
Not kidding. Was just driving along on the 3rd day after I got the car ... and I hear a chime sound ... look down and the message says ... "sit up".

BTW ... I was NOT slouching !!

That doesn't seem to completely turn off alerts. It still pops an error message on the left side of the instruments, if you block the sensor with your arm. The system does not appear to completely turn off.
Anyone know if there is some secret menu to turn it off, 100%?

i noticed in our rx 500h that if i use traffic jam and may arm blocks the driver camera it turns off traffic jam .
i turned off the driver monitor option but i believe i now have to do the driver recording that is done in traffic jam .
i will try it tomorrow on the way home from our baby sitting tour of duty

Annoying Driver Monitor Unavailable Message!!
Hi all,
I have a 2023 500H that I disabled Driver Monitor Alert. Since I did that I get this message "Driver Monitor Unavailable, See Owner's Manual". I only get this message when I have one hand on the steering wheel in the 12 o'clock position, blocking the sensor on the steering wheel. The message goes away once I move my hand. I have contacted a couple different tech guys at different dealers and they have no clue how to disable this message.
Any thoughts?

As a former firefighter, I say keep your hand off 12 o’clock. Seen many a broken wrist and face from airbags with a hand on the top of the wheel.

It may be that it can't be fully disabled unless one were to also disable all the driving assistance functions.
Why? I'm sure Toyota has learned about the 2 million Tesla vehicles being recalled because of inadequate monitoring of the driver's attention to the road.
So, if there is a way to disable the monitoring function/software, I predict they will be eliminating that disable option next time a car is at the dealers.

Urlik is correct. I have a friend who had both bones in his arm broken (ulna and radius) when the airbag went off in a minor collision with another vehicle. His broken arm continued and hit his face and has permanent damage to one eye. The airbag in the steering wheel can save your life or hurt you and should be respected.
