Digital Key questions

- Key fob
- Phone as the key
- Credit Card key
When I posted the car I had only gave me the fob and to use the credit card. They are swapping me to a different vehicle and that one has the card key which from my understanding does not need the app. The phone as a key seems to have a requirement that you have the app open or its running in the background.

Subscription for Digital Key
Ok, this is what gets me. So they charge you $250 to even have the ability to get the digital key. Then they charge you a subscription fee to use it. Anyone else think that is just wrong? Like, either I pay for it outright or you just charge me a subscription fee. I do not mind either, but both seems wrong.

That unfortunately is what a lot of car companies plan to do to increase their revenue streams. The $600.00 traffic jam assist is same deal on our Rx's. GM is getting rid of Carplay and android auto in their new electric vehicles and will probably force you to subscribe to their own version.

Update on Digital Key: so it’s been about 3 months since I got mine working. I use it exclusively and have never been “stuck”. There was one morning at home, a few weeks ago, where an overnight software update required me to reinstall, requiring the FOB. And there have been a few occasions where I had to take my phone out of my pocket and fully activate the “in the background” app. Not quite as seamless as the FOB, but reliable and easy enough.
So I continue to opine that the Digital Key is basically reliable, but I would not be comfortable taking the car out of town without the FOB. But it seems fine (reliable) around town.

No, you do not. However, you said the dealer called to tell you they had one with the "digital key". I was simply pointing out that based on Lexus nomenclature, a digital key is part of the Lexus app. A credit card key is a different animal. But as Daryl has pointed out, there is not one available for the 2023 RX. So either I'm confused or you misunderstood what your dealer was telling you. Either way, good luck. Hope you get the RX of your dreams.

Yes it is "business" but it may backfire on them. Some people commented that they like their Carplay and android auto and if it wasn't offered, it would be a deal breaker and they would buy a different car. This wasn't even about cost but about choice.

Is the key subscription part of one of the other subscriptions (nav?), or a separate one?

From their site: Digital Key requires an active trial/subscription to Lexus Remote Connect with Digital Key.
Here’s the page showing the available subscriptions: https://support.lexus.com/s/article/...iption-Plans-L

I don't see standalone options for Remote Connect or Drive Connect, just the bundled plans there. I guess they sell ala carte as well?
