Old Jedi

There is a light in the overhead console, where the sunroof switches are, that says "Front Passenger Airbag Off". I have noticed it being lit a few times, and I can't figure out why or how to turn it back on. Is there a way to manually turn this airbag off or on? Or is it just a reaction to maybe some goods placed on the seat that takes a while to reset after the trip is over?

I think the lights been there for at least 20 years. The air bag is off (the light is on) when there is no one in the passenger seat. The light goes out when the seat is occupied. Of course weight could turn the light off too.
if it’s not working that way, there is a problem.
