In the Los Angeles area most drivers carry the bare minimum of coverage needed drive. (more than 12% of people living in LA County are on food stamps..... so, having nice car insurance is last thing on their minds) So when someone hits your car there is a good chance you are dealing with a "just getting by" coverage from a pis* poor insurance company. this probably explains the reason why I had such a hard time getting them to cover my PPF.

I'm not sure that different from anyplace else, frankly. I can also see why an insurance company doesn't feel compelled to pay for PPF and other optional add-ons...

I have an endorsement for "Uninsured Motorist". I pay a fee to cover someone else's lack of insurance. It is pretty small. But does cover me if there is damage as a result of someone with inadequate insurance.

Getting it installed today along with tinting of the front passenger and drivers windows. Getting the mirrors, headlights and front bumper done. Don't want to do the whole hood and dont want a partial so a line shows.

Can the headlights be PPFed in this car? Some manufacturers now caution about that because the lens is used for heat dissipation of the headlight assembly.

For sure that calls for a precut kit (which they make), not a free hand cut.

Xpel makes a kit. I can't imagine PPF adding significant insulation.

I have always done the headlights. Last vehicle without after four years of driving looked horrible especially with lights on with hundreds of pitted marks.

Actually now that I read more - the issue some claim is if you have to remove the PPF in the future, it can delaminate the top surface of the headlight lens.

Colour me confused. I don't think I have ever seen a multi-layer headlamp lens. I've seen coated lenses, but I do not think a Lexus uses such a thing.

Same here. Makes a big difference on the long term clarity of the headlights. I learned this with a couple of Priuses, on with and one without the PPF. Both traded at about the 5 year & 50k mile mark. Headlights on the PPF protected ones were still crystal clear. I would put it on the lenses today even if I didn’t put it on the rest of the front of the car (unless leasing, in which case I may not care how long they remain clear). Make sure you use a good quality film that protects against UV light.

I'm having PPF installed today. They told me that they can't do the grille on the RX because the pattern has such small pieces that the film won't stick properly. Instead, they're coating it with some sort of ceramic application. Sounds like others are getting PPF on it but that's what I was told!

I was told by one PPF shop that the film would not stick to the shiny plastic. That was silly. Of course, PPF sticks to plastic! I've cut small pieces of PPF myself and used them to cover things the size of a quarter and they stuck just fine. My guess is that the job to do it takes a zillion hours due to all the small pieces and they would lose money. I am not going to bother with the little diamonds.
