I've been driving for 47 years and have probably owned or had close family members own about that many cars. I've followed threads about this oil and that oil on and on and on. And I've never heard of one problem on any car as long as the minimum oil change frequency and oil number recommended by the manufacturer is followed. I just don't worry about this.

So true - obsessing over oil brand is a waste of time unless you have an LFA or similar.

Yep, it's like the gas you buy at the pump, it's all perfectly fine regardless of branding.

Default ECP Platinum Plan and Paint Sealant (CAD)

Hi folks. We picked up our 2023 RX350H recently and the dealer offered a paint sealant job for $899CAD that has a 10-year warranty. They also offered 4 year ECP Platinum plan that includes the first 3 years of service for $1,945CAD We had a month to think on either one.

Are either of these worth getting?

congrats on your RX.

I wouldn’t get the paint sealant; it’s probably an over glorified wax.

I wouldn't not get it. 5,000 and 10,000 mile service is free. 20,000 is a tire rotation and oil change. Just asking for just this service $110. $40 to change air and cabin air filters and takes 5 minutes to do both. 30,000 mile service tire rotation, oil change and brake fluid change $320. So total for three years of driving $470.

The dealer pushes these service agreements because it is good for the dealer. You will come out cheaper just paying for it as needed.

I got the 50k miles (or 60? can't remember right now) maintenance plan for their cost price. Without disclosing what I paid, it came to a about the same versus taking it to my independent mechanic. Unless you get a ridiculously good price on the maintenance plan I would pass...like others have said, the numbers don't add up.

Dealer maintenance plans are like extended warranties: a sucker's bet. Unless you have a Chrysler.

Thanks everyone! I’ve decided I’m going to pass on both.

Default Prepaid maintenance

I live in Edmonton, Alberta and I'm picking up my rx350H sometime this month. I know once I pick up the car they will try to sell me extended warranties and prepaid maintenance plan. I will decline the extended warranty but wondering if the prepaid maintenance plan is worth it? Anyone with experience to tell me if it's worth getting or not? And how much they paid for it? Thank you.

Prices vary in America, I believe. Some dealers sell at a lower price. The main plan will give you a fixed cost for your maintenance. Lexus service labor will go up in the long term. I am still no fan of these plans.

I'm very much in the corner of those who say don't buy this stuff. It has huge, huge margins for dealers which is why they love them. Some push them very aggressively. Just for context, I think when we got our car in March the finance guy (who we were forced to listen to before we left) went thru all the various plans, from minimal up to top of the line, and the ultimate plan (which included extended warranty, scratch and dent repair, towing from outside our galaxy, everything you could think of, came in at around $17,000 (ten years ago, when we got our 2013 RX the soup to nuts plans were $9800). We didn't buy anything, the 2013 RX has had zero non scheduled repairs (except for brakes) and I'm hoping for the same from the 2023. Save your money.

Hello,

I received my RX350h july 5, I am from Quebec city, so in cad $.
For the paint sealant, the cheapest one I found was at $400, find some at $500, the highest was at $600, all + taxes
if you have some spare time you can do it yourself, way cheaper.
i decided to install XPEL in the front, all the front of the car for $1800+tx
xpel on each door is $360
XPEL is protection paint film (PPF)
i plan to keep my RX for very long time, so decided to invest for the long term

About the platinum plan Lexus at $1945, I thought at the beginning it was a good idea and I bought it
the first year on the market of the RX350h and I convinced myself that it’s ok…I found some reasons to help me sleep
Thought that I will do 2 oil changes per year and all the normal stuff

But really, if you think on the financial side, it’s not worth it.
the oil change is programmed every 15000km, (discover that only when I saw it on the dash board) so if you are a normal dude or if you are like me retired worker and golfer 5 days a week I will do less than 20k/year with my RX, but if you are on the road for 40k-60k per year, this can be a plan to look at,

And with what I know after almost a month of ownership, the plan at $1945 it’s not a good buy
if you want to do paint sealant and ppf, the dealer should not be the first choice
Go to plan b and look for someone else, I am sure some friends will have a few names for this kind of work (sealant, tinted windows and ppf)

enjoy your new RX350h

Default Lexus Luxury Care - yay or nay ?

Hello all,
I have bought a new 2024 Lexus RX350 h, and along with that was sold a prepaid maintenance package , 5y/50000mi, for $3745.
I am having second thoughts about it given that 1st year services are free and generally until the car is 50,000 - 60,000 miles there I snot much that needs to be done in terms of maintenance.
I am very new to Lexus family and would love to know how much are the maintenance services with Lexus and if the package is worth it or not.

Thank you so much in advance.
