Did they say what might be involved? When I close the fuel door it springs back slightly and sits proud. As previously mentioned, seems like there is some play where the door affixes to the plastic backing plate attached to the hinge. At least mine is not the only one…

They didn’t say. When I looked at it, it just looks flimsy and like the plastic piece connected to the actual door flap part had a gap. I haven’t taken it back in for the due bill. I’m hesitant they’ll make it worse.

Couldn’t agree more. I always make a point to ask service advisor whats involved to fix a particular problem/ issue as I want to know what’s involved first. If the risk is greater than the reward I want to have the option to leave well enough alone. If the technicians have no idea what’s causing the issue or how to fix/ adjust to correct it, then Lexus should be informed so they can look into it on their end and provide instructions to dealership with fix.

I’m also very curious to know how the painted fuel door panel is attached to the plastic backing plate and if it’s removable. I’m not particularly fond of having another fuel door installed in case the paint colour is off. IMO that would be worse than the protruding fuel door.

A month went by and I had to go and pickup the plates and I cruised around the showroom floor and checked out all the new RX gas door and is somewhat not flushed as well?! Just wanted to ask here if anyone gas door is not flush as well. Attached some photos!
Wow, that's horrible! Definitely a misalignment issue.

Related to this: I preferred the “push to pop open” fuel door on my 2020RX. The gas open button inside the car is one more unnecessary step.

That is interesting. My 2021 RX has the button on the dash. No "push to pop open" - like my 2016 NX used. I would have expected the 2020 - 2022 gas doors to be use the same latching mechanism.

My son in law has a 2022RX450h L (3rd row) and his has the interior gas door release button. So yeah, there’s some unknown rhyme or reason to what got what.

Whoooaa, that’s some genuine Tesla-level quality control there. May I ask where your RX was made? I know that there has been major changes in Toyota’s C-suite, so that has probably slightly affected company morale in Japan. (Apologies for all the edits as had my three-year old granddaughter on my lap smashing the keyboard when I first wrote this post.)

I believe all 2023 RXs currently available are made in Canada.

My gas door looks good. I did like the old one though where you just pushed to pop open.

I had the pop-out one on my Pathfinder. Awful contraption. Did not stay shut half the time.

'cause it wasn't a Toyota product.

Some Toyota Japanese national in Canada will be spending untold miserable hours reporting about this matter to the head office in Japan. I feel sorry for that person as I know what they go through. It would be interesting to view a photo of this area with the door open to see how it is affixed to the panel.

And mine is the non-hybrid 2022 RX350L and the fuel door is “push to open” on the exterior. There isn’t any open button on the dash. The non-hybrid “L” models were built in Japan. Perhaps that has something to do with it? 🤔🤔🤔
