Default Extended Warranty

I purchased the 10yr/100,000mi extended warranty for $4350 when I took delivery of my 2023 RX 350h. I plan to keep the car for over 10 years. Normally, I wouldn’t even consider the extended warranty for a Lexus but since this is a new model with a new powertrain and electronic features, I figured it may be worth the investment since not much is known about the reliability. Now I am having second thoughts about it. Should I keep the extended warranty?

Hi you over paid for the warranty . I reached out to Jerry Johnson (620) 664-8844 or you can email him jerryj@midwestsuperstore.com. I purchased a 500h and this what he gave me. 10 YEARS 100,000 MILES $3,185.00

A big part of the reason we bought (ordered) a Lexus was to avoid repairs. Up here it is 4 years and the most you can get from the dealer is a maximum of eight years (120K miles/200K kms). But the interesting thing is that if you wait, you only pay a small surcharge (~$450 US) to get it say, the day before your factory 4 year warranty expires. So I will wait. If the thing turns out to be a lemon within the first 4 years we will dump it for something else. And if it is fine, we probably won't get the warranty. BTW, the warranty includes 8 oil changes.

Did you get the platinum care as well? Is Midwest superstore a Lexus dealer? Can a Toyota/Ford dealership offer the same warranties as Lexus?

Midwest is a Toyota store and yes they can sell Lexus platinum warranty. I pick up my car this Monday and My Lexus dealer said they would match it. If they decide not to I will be getting it from Jerry. There is multiple threads on Jerry that’s where I found him. I’ll post his email shortly.

Jerry sold me a Lexus Platinum 0 Deductible in 2018 for about $1400

Any Toyota / Lexus dealer can sell you a Lexus Extra Care Platinum plan which is backed directly by Lexus. If you choose to go through a Toyota dealer, just make sure they aren't in the South east region as they are not able to offer the official Toyota warranty but rather a third party warranty backed by JM Families (the company that owns Southeast Toyota). The warranty is honored at any US Lexus dealer and historically, Jerry has been among the cheapest. I surprisingly managed to snag a cheaper price than Jerry through Earnhardt Toyota. It was $200 cheaper through Earnhardt on a 10 year, 125K plan.

This is the way to play this game if you want the warranty, local dealer will almost always match the better price if you show them proof of the better price. It's great fun at closing time when they try to guilt you into "don't you want tp protect your new vehicle" and you answer of course I do if you match a much better price..

Better way to play the game is to invest the $3,000 to $4,000+ dollars, instead of spending it on an extended warranty for your new Lexus. Use the proceeds if needed to pay for any unlikely major repairs. You will be thousands of dollars ahead over the life of the car. Do this repeatedly on everything you buy and you will amass a small fortune.

Generally this is right. If I was going to keep my new RX for 10 years, however, I might do this extended warranty.

Extended warranties are generally a sucker's bet. I had one for a Dodge (and it paid off in spades), but I surely hope a Lexus is not in the same class. Like I said before, 4 years bumper-to-bumper and 6 on the powertrain. If it looks dodgy I'll consider extending the warranty just before the factory one does. The reason they sell you warranties is because they make money on them.

And investing four grand won't buy much in the way of repairs IME.

"Four grand" would have paid for ALL of the repairs that would have been covered by an extended warranty on the four Toyotas I have owned since 1990, because there were no such repairs.

I was talking about the investment income from 4K. Up here at best, that is $250 bucks. But yeah, I would be disappointed if there was that level of repairs in a Lexus. By comparison, we had a Corolla that cost ZERO for three + years. And this was a older used Toyota.

Had my son’s 2014 Corolla from Aug 2013 until 6 months ago. Not one single repair required. And the last 5 years it only got bare minimum maintenance.
