Question 2023 RX OPTIONAL (6) Dealer Extended Protection Packages - What Did You Pay?

I've ordered a 23 RX that's slated to be delivered in March. To avoid being pressured into the various protection packages that you're presented and sometimes pressured into buying at the time of picking up your new car - I asked my salesperson for a listing of the various OPTIONAL protection packages I would be offered at the time of vehicle delivery so I could at least see if any of them make sense at the time of purchase.

The following is a list of protection packages with their corresponding full MSRP prices listed for each coverage I'll be offered at the time of delivery. As we all know, these OPTIONAL protection packages showing the list MSRP prices are often discounted/negotiated in the sales office, however, I thought I would start this post to get an idea of what different buyers have paid for each of these packages so I have a better idea what the price of these "could" be. I'm also aware that each of these will generally vary by each car deal and price paid, dealership, region of purchase, as well as the customer. So let's see what everyone is paying for these (if you bought them at all) to help us, future delivery customers out.... Also note, I'm just listing the initial name of coverages that will be offered, as we also know that the devil is always in the coverage fine print deals of exactly what is/is not covered.

Again, these are just the initial starting prices, but each one would potentially be negotiated down or a more discounted price presented at the time of signing, as you can easily tell (at least to me) that most of these prices seem vastly inflated, which is why I'm asked for your help if I were to potentially select any of these so I know what I should be looking to spend.

Vehicle: 23 RX350h Premium Plus loaded - Los Angeles
  • Tire and Where Protection $3,140
  • VSC Lexus (mechanical failure) 72 months / 100,000 miles $4,895
  • Luxury Care Plan (covers factory-recommended maintenance services 60 months / 50,000 miles $$3,620
  • PermaPlate Protection (interior/exterior protection included leather, carpet, and paint. headlight lens yellowing) $995.00
  • Key Replacement (if the key is lost, stolen or destroyed - provides replacement of key) $795
  • Door Edge Guards (door edge and cup guard to protect against door dings/scratches, includes paintless dent removal, exterior paint scratches, leather and carpet repair, windshield repair, and alloy wheel protection) $895
Thanks for sharing your prices and thoughts about any of the above plans

Nothing above includes ceramic coating? My dealer wants $1195 for interior protection sprays everywhere, ceramic exterior application (Ethos brand), 3 years free painless dent removal.

It’s all skim. Avoid the skim.

So in the initial info I received from the dealer, this product may be the same, as it says it includes paint protection, but you are correct it does not say ceramic -
  • PermaPlate Protection (interior/exterior protection included leather, carpet, and paint. headlight lens yellowing) $995.00
  • Leatherguard Protection
  • Protect your leather seats
  • Fiberguard Protection
  • For spills, splatters, and mishaps, your interior is covered
  • Paintguard Protection
  • Protects the exterior paint
  • Automotive Protection Combo
  • Appearance Protection
  • Windshield Protection
  • Paintless Dent Repair

You need to ask specific questions, it could be a coat of quick wax otherwise. And get the brand name of the ceramic coating being used.

A good ceramic application with paint correction can run $700 at a top aftermarket shop. That $1195 package from my dealer, with the added other options, might be something I will consider - because having to leave a brand new car with an aftermarket shop, is not something I really want to do.

I got a price of $1700 for a Lexus VSC contract 6 year 100,000 miles. A couple of different folks offer it. I think one is Jerry Johnson at Midwest Toyota Superstore. Another is Casey McGrew at Lexus of Shreveport. All Lexus dealers will honor it. You don’t have to buy from the dealer that you buy your vehicle from. I think there is a sticky either in this forum or the 4th generation forum about extended warranties.

In general, these are not good deals, but if you’re going to do it, you can do better than 4’xxx.

Thanks @Hefty - I'm glad you reminded me of the content on a previous forum - I will look for it - What's interesting is while they say its for 6 years, its really for 2 years right - as the factory warranty is good for the first four years. However, the factory basic warranty is only for 50k, the powertrain 72 mts / 70.

I wonder if anyone has been able to get the VSC at a better rate?

Like Daryl said, it is all skim. I will only comment on the $3140 USD (that is like $4400 CAD) tire and wheel protection package. You have got to be freakin' kidding me! I can't imagine a bigger waste of money.

Yes you're right @Eagleboy99 ..however, like I mentioned in the beginning of the post the salesperson told me that the price would be negotiated down at time of delivery but obviously that's up to me to try to figure out how much it could be negotiated down too

https://www.lexusfinancial.com/conte...eplaceOnly.pdf If that is t, I would not even consider it. Well, maybe for $500 bucks. Pretty much everything there you will either never use or can get for a fraction of the cost elsewhere. Notice for example it is windshield REPAIR, not replacement.
I just bought a 2021 RVR for my daughter since the last car was totaled by another driver. Dealer wanted to tack on their "standard" $1799 (all prices CAD) refurb fee; their $499 window security etching; and a few hundred for tire rotations and tire protection (whatever that was) My reply was a hard no. I negotiated them out of all of that garbage.

Tire and wheel $3140....That has to be a huge mistake.....More like $314.00 I paid $299.00 for three years.

These charges for everything is insane...TOTALLY insane.

I would be much more worried leaving my Lexus at a Lexus dealer for detailing than just about any reputable detailing place. I know I've worked at a Lexus dealer.

A good detailer will provide you with a real ceramic coating if that's your thing. Permaplate protection is just wax, It is not Ceramic...even that is not permanent.

Save your money, just say no thanks, you'll be fine!

Congrats on the new vehicle.

My dealer uses Ethos. And I imagine they either bring in an outside contractor for this work, or have a trained detail person at the dealer. Really, the work for a good ceramic job is in the prep before the application, even a new car needs paint correction,

Just curious - can ceramic go OVER paint protection film?

@FastFord - no, that is the first price quoted - However, as I originally posted, the salesperson said that's the "starting price" but in finance the price is reduced. That's why I wanted to see how low some who have bought this option was able to get it for. I initially agree that generally this is total skim, but was just curious how low some people has got this coverage down to...
