Default Help! lift gate jammed/stuck :(

2023 RX 350 - my son closed the back lift gate on the strap of his lunch cooler. Now the liftgate will not open. It still beeps (not a fuse) and its not in valet mode.

I found the manual release area but the "lever" appears to be made of really cheap/thin plastic. I tried fiddling with it a little but I couldn't get it to budge and honestly Im afraid of breaking it. I tried to spin it both clockwise/counterclockwise with a screwdriver but you can see theres a notch where the screwdriver slipped and dug into the plastic.

Can anyone give me some tips of how/which direction to move this lever? Should I play it safe and take it to the dealer? (really dont have time for that / dont want to if its an easy fix)

Thanks!

I'd check the manual on how to use that lever first.. Its gotta be in your manual.

Talking Hooray!

OMG - "RTFM"! I cant count how many times I have told other people this.

This is my first new car - I have never owned a car manual lol. It was and still is all sealed (thanks to Julius071's picture)

I was able to get the gate open and the strap out. Works fine now. What I was missing is that "cheap plastic" is just a cover that needs to be unscrewed with a phillips screwdriver. then way inside is a very small lever that is pushed to the right/clockwise. I had to push it with a screwdriver. It didnt do anything at first, I had to push on the door it self multiple times (with alot of force I might add) while pushing on the latch. Eventually it unlatched, I got the strap out and all is well.

Thank you all so so much!

Agree, paper is useless. I pulled my manuals down in PDF from the Lexus app and saved them on the cloud. Now I don’t have the bulky paper ones in my car, I have access to them from virtually anywhere, and I can do word searches easily. I’ve actually pulled info from my PDF manual a couple of times for my 23 RX350h. Very helpful as a PDF.
