One of the things I love about this car is that the auto stop doesn't work unless you press the the break harder. I can stop all day long with out the stop/start kicking in. If I want to I press the break a little harder and the engine stops. This is the only stop/start system I could stand and I actually Like to use it occasionally, Long light, drive through.. really well thought out.

‘I did not think the brake has anything to do with it. My 350h engine is always stopped before I come to a stop unless it is needing to heat the cabin or the traction batteries need charging.

I had to look up to make sure I was in the RX350h forum.

Default Turning off auto stop start ?

Do any of you turn off the stop start feature on your 2023/24 RX? This is the first vehicle I've owned with this feature. I have been using it but still not used to it yet. I bought a 2023 gas RX350 and had an older hybrid before so I was used to that vehicle powering down when at a full stop. But, a friend scared me about the auto stop start feature recently that it is bad for your engine. It left me wondering if the engineering of all the newer cars with the stop start feature make it less harmful to the engine long-term.

Your friend doesn't know what they're talking about.

We turn it off after turning engine on as a habit.

Toyota/Lexus has had this feature for more then a decade. We had our 2013 450H for more then ten years, and never turned it off, nor had a problem with it.

Toyota has based many vehicles on this kind of hybrid.

I do not think you can turn it off with a hybrid. It would just be defeating the purpose of having a hybrid. Mine has worked without flaw. The whole system has worked great for the first 5K!

I have the non-hybrid RX350 and I turn the auto-stop start OFF every time I get in; it's a habit now. I did the same thing with my Q5 and F-150 EcoBoost - not a fan of abruptly stopping oil flow to the turbo. To each their own, but that's me.

I turn it off also, my braking habits at stops are such that it doesn't come on that much anyway. If I do leave it on, the car tells me to press harder on the pedal at a stop to activate it. So its a cumbersome feature for me.

Default Change setting of auto stop/start

Is it possible to change the setting of the auto stop/start feature so that it is always off unless I pressed the button to turn it on? Currently, it is always on unless I turn it off.

not until someone comes up with a hack device. The EPA mpg rating is based on auto start/stop so it must be always on when starting the car.

I'll give my results once its ready/installed.
So how did it work out? Successfully defeating the start/stop without harming anything else? (I did find one for-sale item in a quick search, $27, supposed to work up to the '23 RX 350 - I've sent the distributor a message to confirm that it would also work for the '24).
