Home grown thread is basically just cleaning and lubing the mast and hoping some of the lube finds it way down to the internal nylon strap. I have been doing that one for awhile now with only limited sucess. The one I posted the link to really lubes the internal nylon strap and from the looks of the oil it even flushes it out a little. Mine has never been this quite from the home grown thread method.

I can't understand the jibberish in that other article. What I gathered is, there's a black hose and a clear hose under the car. You take an oil pump and squirt half a cup of synthetic oil up into one of the drain hoses?

I believe one of those hoses is a sun roof drain, and the other is a drain for the antenna (in case of water getting in it) when I replaced my antenna,I lubed it with some grease (the white nylon part of it) and it has worked well, and quiet ever since.

I didn't find it to be jibbererish, but the poster did go into a lot detail so you would understand what you are doing. In a nutshell pump about 1/2 cup of oil into the smaller of the 2 drain hoses that come out underneath the car directly under the antenna. worked great and took less than 3 minutes.

I wish I found this before my antenna stopped going down, now its stuck all the way out. I guess once I fix it, this will be kept in mind. Thanks great find!

Can't you just carefully push it back in?

Overlube can have pretty bad consequences and they take a bit of time to develop.

Who ever does the suggested fill with oil, please keep us posted on long term affects.
a) Collection of grime.
b) Life of non metallic parts.
c) Motor (if the oil penetrates)

This can make the situation worse ...
I think having the mast stuck extended is better than having it stuck down.

Yes, but if mast is stuck in the extended position for more than 4 hours call your doctor immediately.

I am glad my posting did not include "my" or "mine".
