FREE GromAudio USB Ipod MP3 Adapter for RX300
UPDATE as of 6/1/2010: New firmware has fixed 99% of the bugs. See post on page 2.
Original Story:
Gromaudio needs your vehicle (99-03 RX300) for a day or two to test and work out some bugs, if any, on their product. In exchange, you will receive a USB unit installed for free. This is the exact unit that you will get:
http://www.gromaudio.com/usb.html
I bought two of those units and installed it in my Prius and the RX. I then transferred a thousand plus songs onto an 8GB USB stick sorted out in 17 folders (you can have up to 99 folders). The USB stick emulates a cd changer and each folder or "virtual CD" can hold hundreds of music. I named my folders 60s, 70s, classic rock, dance, classical, latin, etc. It sounds very good I was blown by it! Just like a CD (even better on some selections I don't know why) and FAR BETTER than Sirius satellite, no doubt.
I don't use my ipod (although you can connect an ipod and MP3 players) because it's far more convenient to just leave the USB connected inside the glove compartment. And I can control the USB changer just like a regular CD changer using the car's stereo/CD controls. In the Prius, I control the USB changer using the steering wheel buttons while the MFD screen displays the title of music playing, artist, etc. Great product, nothing like this on the market.
If you live near Belmont, CA, centrally located from major cities like San Francisco (23 miles), San Jose (25 miles) and Oakland (32 miles), GromAudio would like to talk to you. If you work close enough, GromAudio can possibly drop you off and pick you up from work or from a public transit location.
Send me a PM or go direct to their website and state that you're from ClubLexus and would like to discuss with Alberto regarding this RX300 offer.

I heard that the unit works on some RX, particularly 99 models. This is the reason why Grom wants to do a follow-up on RX installs. My feeling is it might be possible the RX came fitted with standard radios from two suppliers over the years 1999-2003. I have read before that Pioneer supplied the standard radio. But when I pulled the radio out from my wife's 2001 RX, it has a Fujitsu. To answer your question, yes, it "might" work on your 99RX. It would be interesting to see if you have a Pioneer or Fujitsu.

Grom contacted me and said that a member of CL called them and left a message but the return phone number was garbled. So, if this is you, please contact them again. Thanks!

I have one of the GROM units in one of our other (German) cars. It works very well. I have never really missed the CD changer. I converted all my stuff to iPod a long time ago.
I was in contact with GROM last week, the issue is still unresolved. Some units work OK and others not. It is NOT related to the head unit manufacturer.
Hoping they can fix it so I can buy another for the RX.
