How do you change Air Filter in 2004 RX330?

 

Manual has directions. Very simple. Do you have your manual? 1st you have to purchase the filter. CL has approved vendors who sell them (and other maintenance items) at a very good price.

 

On my '05 330, pop the two latches, pivot the lid up and out, remove the old - put in the new, snap the latches.

As suggested, the info is in the owner's manual too.

on both side of the air box are 2 10mm nutts u will need a extention to get to the nut in the back in screw both nuts nuts..there r also 3 vacuum lines on the box take them of and pull up on the box and replace the filter

 

OOPS! I said latches (wrong car) and I meant 10 mm captive bolts. I just finished changing out the air filter this afternoon and it took all of five minutes. Bought a filter at Advance Auto and it fit quite well. Others had reported that aftermarket filters may not fit as well as OEM.

Gary, I am curious what brand you picked up. I have tried the STP and Fram, neither seemed to fit right. I went back to OEM for ease of installation.

i have the k&N filter, fits very well and can last a long time before cleaning is needed.

 

Advance Auto would sell Purolator...and Fram....

 

Pretty sure it was Purolator. The biggest issue in the installation was that I had to completely remove the upper box cover from the air filter assembly. I needed two hands to place the filter in and one hand holding the box and hand holding the filter didn't hack it.

Btw, they also claim that they have the cabin filter too. i need to order one of those. I will repor on it when I get it.

The Cabin Air Filter is actually an activated carbon filter, $18 and so easy to replace. The Manual tells you how to do it.

 

Good thing most us know how to replace our own air cabin filter. Toyota was charging $50 + price of filter just to drop the glove box compartment and slide the old filter out from the back and replace with a new. I can only imagine what the Lexus dealer charges for this...

I agree with you. The Fram filter doesn't fit right. I guess I will be returning the STP filter as well.

 

I have had my cabin filter out twice just to knock the debris and dust out. I really need to replace it and will order the aftermarket one to see if it is activated charcoal. If not, I will order an OEM one from the online Lexus guys. Fwiw, I talked with the Toyota dealer a couple of miles from my house and they said to bring in my Lexus filters to see if theirs fit. We both agreed that it is unlikely that Toyota and Lexus have different filters for both the cabin and the air filter.
