Dunlop Grandtrek Touring A/S Tires...
Hello all,
I recently picked up a 2010 RX450h for my wife. I was wondering, if people here driven through winter on Dunlop Grandtrek Touring A/S tires that came with the car? Tirerack does not have that many reviews for these tires and the ones I saw that had the best rating for 235-55-19 was Yokogama Parada with 2.5million miles reported.
The reason i am questioning these Dunlops is that with 2k miles on them, they slip quite often even in wet weather. I did search on this forum but did not find anything that would really help.
I usually tend to get a second set of wheels and tires for the winter (we live in Chicago), but since my wife drove very nicely on all-season Continentals that came with her 2008 Q7, I would rather stay with a good all-season tire for a leased car.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

No, I don't play soccer!
Welcome ellisina4 to CL.
I got my 450h in January and quickly put the Dunlops to the test. There were a few storms I had to drive through because work closed early. Hills are unavoidable including one a half mile long both up and down. I experienced no slipping and didn't bother with snow mode. I used sequential trans instead.
Normal quirks are still there. The back end slips a little in turns. I didn't have to go around any stuck cars so I can't comment on how it handles there. But I'm pretty confident driving the 450h in the snow with all the technology on board along with the Dunlops.

I have the Dunlops on my 450h and had it all of last winter. We had several pretty good snow storms here in Central PA and the RX handled everything just fine. We also went to Toronto during a snow storm last February and had no problems.
I have not experienced and slipping in wet weather. I am not sure what my tire pressure is. I just go with what the dealer sets it at. I will have to check that out. It is possible that we are at different pressures and that could have played a role in some of your slips.
I have the Continentals on my A6 and like them very much also. You need to keep in mind that the Audi Quattro is a full time AWD while the 450h is a FWD and the rear wheels only kick in when there is some kind of slippage. The rear wheels are electrically driven by the traction motor. There is no mechanical linkage to the engine/transmission as there is in the Quattro.

2010 RX350 with 1,041 miles...steering vibration above 70MPH...Dunlop touring A/S tires...went to dealer yesterday, and they couldn't balance the wheels with the tires I had, and they replaced the front 2 tires to new Dunlops...free of charge. I am glad dealer replaced them...wish they were Michelins
Any one with similar issues with Dunlop? Not sure what to expect down the road...

Yes! A lot of squealing in parking lot speed(5-10mph) while turning full locked. I had different lexus dealers did alignments twice and even put new wheels on. But the problem persists. My conclusion: They're junk as hell and i am switching to a different brand after the holidays.

got screwed again by Lexus remember how good the Goodyear Eagles were on the 330's when they first came out 20k miles and you would have to replace them. If Lexus wanted to go so green, then why do they put tires on a car that will last 50k+ miles before you need to change them out?

Several threads last year refer to Yokohama Prarada's as being a nice after market choice. Has anyone actually got them and like them? Our Dunlops have 40k miles on them and are getting close to getting replaced.

I'm upgrading our 2011 RX350 to the 19" wheels, so I think the Dunlops are the only tires that come on them. I know Tire Rack says Michelin and Bridgestone are two options but I have yet to see anything other than the Dunlops on the 19" wheels. Anyone seen anything different?

My 2010 (450h) came with 19" wheels and had the Bridgestones (400 H/L). I replaced them at 300 miles with the OEM Michelins that I purchased on Tirerack due to the terrible snow/ice capability of the Bridgestones as noted in the Tirerack survey. I would highly recommend the Michelins, as I have taken them in snow/ice, and they do great; and they are rated for higher mileage vs. the Bridgestones.

In checking today on Tirerack, the 2 best buys are Michelin and Dunlap for the OEM tires. If one considers the treadwear rating, Michelin is the better buy. The prices for a set of 4 (and treadwear rating) are:
1. Michelin--> $ 676 (treadwear = 440),
2. Dunlap---> $ 540 (treadwear = 280),
3. Bridgestone---> $ 892 (treadwear = 260).
