Default 30k fyi

Just for you to compare, I had my 30,000 mile check up yesterday. The basic 30K was $200 USD. By the time they changed oil, filters, and brake fluid the total with labor and taxes was $516.00. (Anita, they replaced the rear logo a second time for free) It took three hours and I got a HS250h as a loaner. I must also comment I like our RX's deep cavernous storage compartment over the big open hole with the overhanging arm rest in the HS. Gosh is that ugly.

I asked that they not touch the exterior and they cleaned the front interior. They also pulled out my Weathertech mats and cleaned and replaced them.

Considering all they did I didn't think that was too bad. However, I put two gallons of gas in the loaner and that was a killer!!!

Maybe it's obvious to others, but I'm not getting how $200 turned into $516, with just changing the oil, brake fluid, and filters. Or is that how much those services cost on a Lexus?

I assume over 1/2 of cost is the labor charge ?

The two dealers near me that I use for service have been offering discounts and coupons on various services. I'm wondering if things in the service departments have slowed down a bit, hence the need for the discounts. Just a thought.

David, I'd like to know how the price jumped so much too. The 15K services tend to be pricey. That's more than I paid on the 330 though. I had the HS once for a loaner. It's different. I didn't have it too long to try it out that much. I remember the gear shift was a little funny. It's neat how the nav screen pops out of the dash. When I first got in I said, great, no nav. Surprise! I forgot what I did to make that happen. My biggest complaint was how filthy it was. Oh, and the carpeted mats secured with ties. Looked cheap.

Glad they changed the emblem again for you, again. I hope I won't have to do the same. The price to pay for having such a fancy emblem

30k service is not bad, but not cheap for the people who pay for the 80% of the unnecessary items.

I think a lot of people could do the "30K factory recommended service" by themselves, except the brake fluid.
The brake fluid is a 2-person job or 1-person job with proper tools.
People can inspect all the listed items while working on or under the car.

Txt,

Looks like replacing the brake fluid wasn't in my dealer's 30K list. My invoice does say measure brake pad thickness and rotor runout.

Nicely typed list, what I should have typed up.

You shame me for not doing my own 30K, but I haven't touched a torque wrench for decades.

David, about the only things I would do myself are changing out the air/cabin filters, wipers and key fob battery, and topping the fluids. Then again, I'm not a fan of having oil and stuff laying around for the little amount I might need. And I didn't spend all this money to get my hands dirty. Those days are over.

I can't say I'm surprised the 30k service cost as much as it did.
