I have the digital key but lately I had been using a key fob because the digital key experience has been very poor; another disappointment for lexus
Do you still use the lexus app (minus the digital key)? Since you got your 24 RZ for about a month, I cannot rely on your advice because my new 12v lasted just over a month. What additional evidence do you have that digital key is responsible for battery drain? Any network activity should drain tiny amount of energy from relatively (compared to say a smart phone).
I also had a software update a few weeks ago with noticeable changes in the car behavior.

You are correct, Toyota\Lexus really FU*KED up trying to rush the RZ to market!
I don't recall giving you advice, only a recommendation based on what I'm doing. I do use the Lexus app (minus the digital key) and use the wallet smart key instead of the key fob, one less thing to carry in my pocket. I have NO evidence what so ever that it is the digital key and you are correct, the digital key should not be drawing that much energy, and, even if it does, there is supposed to be a mechanism that draws energy from the main battery to keep the 12V always fully charged.
So far I have had no issue and hopefully won't!

Just as an update … after just about 6-months of ownership the 12V battery in my 2023 RZ450e died three times in the span of a couple of weeks. It then spent the next 6+ weeks with the dealer … and no one, including the Lexus corporate tech person/engineer was able to determine “why” or to devise a fix. I expressed my frustration and so Lexus very promptly agreed to do a buy-back.
During this period there was lots of speculation as to the cause for the battery drain … perhaps it was because i was using the app too much, or the key fobs were bad and “pinging the car all of the time” or possibly the device I was using (I have an iPhone) was the culprit. But as far as I know, they were not able to make a firm determination as of the date I handed the car back to Lexus. And I understand that similar problems have been reported with the Toyota BZ4Z. So much for buying a first-year model.
Thankfully, Lexus made me whole with the buy-back and I switched to a new ES300h. They were very professional, prompt and hassle-free during the entire process. Of course we have been long-time Toyota/Lexus customers, so I’m thinking that was a factor in their willingness to bring this saga to a close.
