Sunroof motor replacement?

Sunroof motor replacement?
Does anyone have a write up on what is required to replace the sunroof motor? Mine stopped opening my sunroof and was making grinding noises so I bought a replacement motor on ebay ($10!) and need to do it this afternoon. I can only assume the headliner needs to be removed or at least pulled downwards at the front?
Any help is appreciated

I've never replaced the motor, but I have removed the whole sunroof assembly. I would guess you'll need to do that to get the motor out of there, but it's possible the motor drops out the bottom with the assembly still in place. At any rate, unbolting the whole assembly is pretty easy once the headliner is out of the way, which you'll for sure need to do.
Be careful when removing the headliner, as the tabs like to tear off the backside of the fiberboard material.
The controller is much more likely to go bad than the motor, but hopefully you're right ... a bad controller doesn't seem like it would create grinding noises.

Everything I found said it was required to remove the headliner to change the motor but I managed to get it changed without removing it. This fixed my problem. Interestingly enough though with the new motor in, it has full functionality forward and back, and you can tilt it up, and tilt it down…but it doesn’t seal all the way down when you tilt it back down, until you tap the “slide back” switch real quick and then it seals that extra inch downwards. Not a big deal but just thought it was interesting, since I didn’t have to do it before when it was fully functional previously.
