Default The number...

Thanks S'Low Rider for confirming a close number. i'm glad to hear the number in the US might be substaintially less.

Thanks Malcolm for giving a good reason to garage SCs during winter time. My SC engine comparment looks clean, but not as clean as yours! Yes, me too; i'm trying ... hard to keep it in good shape, but on Sunday... a close friend entered her car, and the right door of her car hit the left door of my car, making a visible mark Uhm... of course, i didn't want to query a close friend about the incident, and also wanted to keep a good relationship with State Farm agent (so didn't make any clam though I have zero deductible). i just blamed myself for parking there... Well, will keep it garaged ... after new year. I have another '00 Honda Coupe too.

The 'statistics' figures were very good indeed.

I have some Lexus sales figures going back to 1995, it would be interesting to see how 'Brian Long's Lexus book figures match up.

1995 SC300 3356 SC400 4364
1996 SC300 2390 SC400 2557
1997 SC300 2999 SC400 2043
1998 SC300 1766 SC400 1243
1999 SC300 1643 SC400 778 (for some reason my sales figures only go upto November!!)
2000 SC300 450 SC400 136
2001 SC300 7 SC400 0

Brians book doesnt list the specific models... it only lists "SC series" "GS series" and so on.

Go to the LSOC (UK) website http://www.lexusclub.co.uk/ and click "members" (register if you haven't already) then click "editorial features" and then "production tables" - it lists all the VINs for all the SC/Soarers built. I'm too lazy to do a count from all those VIN sequences, but if you're up to it, great, post the totals here!

<edit> I have also heard that in the 91-97 years, about 10% of the JZZ31's (3.0) were 5-speeds.

Or you can go here and get the complete and most up to date production figures for all the Soarer models including the SC400 , SC300 and the SC430......

http://soarer.toyotaimportsforum.co....production.htm

I think I should change my handle from 'S'Low Rider to Soarer Anorak .... I spend far to much time finding out about the history of these amazing cars ..... from the early designs ( like the picture below) to the latest

Default SC/Soarer production

Here is the production schedule from Brian Long's book: (1991 production includes old model)

Year Production Exports
1991 43,426 14,965
1992 33,215 21,864
1993 20,658 16,643
1994 22,368 12,867
1995 9,496 5,051
1996 8,294 4,479
1997 6,700 4,913
1998 5,000* 3,000*
1999 3,000* 2,000*

Cummulative exports (1999): 85,782.

Figures for 98,99 are approximate because the book was printed right as the time of the SC4/3 was ending, but they are close. I have a strong belief that there are fewer than 100,000 SC series cars in the United states, making it a very, very rare car. I saw one yesterday in worcester and nearly jumped from shock when I saw it. I see an SC once every 2 months where I live.

Look at the drop in production for the 1995 model year!

Any other questions I'd be glad to answer, I might just scan the production charts from the book so everyone can see.

Many thanks for the update on the figures SC400-V8

I'm almost 100% sure that the export figures that 'Long' has used are not for the USA, they are for North America which also includes Canada I wonder how many the Canadians bought

As you say , a very rare car indeed ...... personally, I'd go lower than the figure of 85,782 for the number of SC300 and SC400 models sold in the USA between 1991 and 2001.

Even rarer over here in England .... never officially sold by Toyota or Lexus , all the Soarers are imported JDM models ..... we might have as few as 5000 on our roads

The figures below are for 1999 and 2000 'world wide' exports (not just USA) but as the SC300/SC400 was only sold in North America (including Canada and Puerto Rico) its probably as close as you'll ever get to the amount sold in the USA
