Default Body Kit Experts - Rear Lip Question

What is the best way to attach a fiberglass rear add on lip to the factory bumper? My lip is currently held on by screws, which have rusted thru the paint.

Manaray suggested using heavy duty 3M tape and screws.

What are the other alternatives? Suggestions are welcome!

I was thinking of using urethane glue(similar glue that they use for windshields, etc) for making the bond between the two pieces.

Thanks.

Nice car, looks familiar. The bodyshop that put on my kit said both glue and screws should be used for safety and durability. They used the black screws that resist rust on mine. Can you take the rusted screws out, re-sand and paint over the affected areas them use rust resistant screws?

are the screws visible on your setup? The way they installed it was, screwed in the lip, bondod over the screws, and then painted.

I will have to undo what they did, and use glue, screws, bondo, etc. And then finally paint the lip again.

Yeah, the screws are visible. But they were also visible on the splash guards that were on the car before the lip. I told them I didn't trust the Erebuni rear lip and would replace it next year. They didn't want to cover them knowing I was going to change pieces.
Whatever you end up doing, it's going to cost either time, money or both to look right.
Good luck.

Can you post a close-up pic of the lip and screws. I was thinking of leaving the screw exposed, but was not sure how it would look.

Thanks.

hard to explain...but you basically drill a small hole and you slide the rivet in and use a rivet gun to pull the stem of the rivet through. the stem has a ball at the end of it and as you pull it it makes the rivet larger and hence hold whatever you're trying to install.

this should help...

To clear things up a bit, that is not a JIC rear lip...That is something Emerald came up with...I have no idea what rear lip that is but its definitely not a JIC..

Default rear lip

aliga, my body shop used heavy duty 3M and put the screws only on the parts behind the rear wheels.

Gazi,
use 3M tape that the body shops use. That is some strong stuff. I used it once to put the lip on my old kit, then 5 minutes later took it off. It took me 20 minutes to remove the tape...
