Lower door carpet gets wet when it rains..How do I fix it?
I have a '92 SC400 and I'm experiencing a problem where the carpet on the lower front end of both doors will be wet after it rains. For example, if it rains while the car is parked outside overnight, when I check the car in the morning, the carpet on the doors will be soaked. It is only the carpet on the doors that gets wet, everywhere else is dry. I've removed the door panels, but saw nothing apparent that I could do to fix the problem. I've checked the rubber seal on both doors and they look brand new. This car is in mint condition and I'm really perplexed by this problem especially considering that it's a Lexus. I've done a thorough search of the board and seen others post a similar problem but no clear solution. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks for all help.

then you should both search on the subject because we had a few threads on this in the middle of last year.
if you guy's don't find it by the time i wake, i'll look for you and try to locate them. I'm heading to bed

Even if it looks brand new, there's only one thing that stops the water from coming in and thats the weather seal on the door. I changed mine because i had the same prob and now it's like new. It's a lil tricky, about an hour or two job, but you should be able to do it in a night after work... That'll fix your problem!!!

If you check the past forums you would find I had a front windshield problem.Like OLT said have a glass shop check the the front windshield for rust on the upper area. The rust between the glass and roof creates a leak, which channels down the pillar and then down to the carpet. If you want to check it your self, pull the front headliner down and have some pour water while you look at that area.Gooood luck

Hey Gang,
I replied to another post on this issue of wet carpets. There are several things that could cause the leak, in my case it was a torn service hole cover. Here is what I wrote in the other thread:
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
I had the same issue with damp carpets every time it rained.
Finally had it, and with the new leather seats going in I decided to gut out the entire interior and clean everything up. I also took the opportunity to investigate the damp carpet situation.
Previously I had replaced all the door seals and checked the sunroof drain lines. No issues with those. After gutting the interior, I had a friend spray water over the vehicle as I sat inside. Sure enough, a puddle of water started forming in the footwell area.
As I traced the water trail, it had actually trickled in from the plastic service hole cover (window regulator access hole cover). The plastic covers in my car had been ripped and torn from previous services. The water would flow down the window, past the belt moulding and onto the plastic cover. And instead of trickling down to the drain holes on the inside of the door, it would seep into the interior.
This would also explain the wet/discolored carpet trim on the lower door trim. The water would track along the lower edge of the door and onto the door panel trim. And eventually it would trickle down into the footwell areas.
I replaced both covers and sealed them with silicone. I retested after, and guess what, NO MORE WATER LEAKING IN!!!
So far this has solved the problem, no more leaks, no more damp carpets, no more foul, damp smelling carpet.
So if you have a leak, and you've checked the rubber mouldings, checked the sunroof drainage pipe and still get wet carpets when it rains, check the plastic service hole coverings. Make sure they make a nice tight seal around the opening and that water cannot make it past any openings or rips in the plastic.
Good Luck!

I had a sunroof leak on my 4Runner and I could not figure out where exactly at
so i took a gallon of water, mixed some food color in it (red was the one i used) and poored it on top of the car, it sure did show where it was, even if it dries out by the time you get the panels or mouldings off it will leave a trace. make sure you pull the carpet back or place some plastic or cloth (or both) over it so you dont stain anything in your car (I know this sounds amateur but it worked for me )
and if any of you need weather seals, I got a couple of sets, I'm parting out 2 sc400's
