Newbie~ Just got a SC300 and lovin it
Hi everybody. I just recently picked up a 95 SC300. I've done the search and couldn't find a good answer to my question. My question is, which aftermarket exhaust system is the most quiet one out there for the SC300? And how well does it perform? I'm looking to get a exhaust but don't want the loud sound. Something close to stock is perferred. Thanks for the help guys...

Depends on what you want to do. You can just replace the mufflers. Borlas are good. They are very quiet, adds a bit of a low end rumble. You can also replace all the piping. Also, keep the resonators. Doing the BFI, or any type of intake will also add a bit of growl, but not too loud. You have a lot of options. Do a search.

toked - Thanks for the help. I will do the search further. BTW how loud is the borla compared to the stock? Just want to know what I'm looking at..
DGOT20s - Thanks.. I don't know if there is a such a society. But I got to say that I love this car. Always wanted one, and finally got it.
OLT - I will post a pic soon. Just haven't gotten around to taking pix yet. Although it's stock. But mint.

Welcome smokentt, Magnaflow mufflers are pretty quiet---quieter than stock even. They develop a growl after a six month break in, and they still sound fairly tame. I've only heard them on a V8, but I'd imagine they are quieter on the I6.

Oh come now, give sound a chance!
On my 95 Sc4 my dad and i replaced the back 2 mufflers (kept the resonators) and just bolted on at the axle some custom straight pipes with gold tips. It got rid of a lot of back pressure, despite us leaving the cats intact, and ran very very rich for about 2 weeks, then the car fixed itself and now we get about the same or better gas mileage. Plus the car is a lot lighter now, with the lighter pipes. It sounds, well, i'll have to post a movie or something on my cardomain site, cause i dont have these board-functions down yet.
You ever been near an indy car when it revved its engine?
Random thought, anyone ever watched the back fenders above the wheel when removing the full spare in the trunk? My lex rises about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch away from the wheel, no exaggeration. Is this an indication of how PERFECTLY designed our lexuses are?

magnaflows aren't quiet... i've heard and seen clips of them and they are def a lot louder than stock. I have borla mufflers with everything else still intact. It sounds very clean. I also don't want my car to be too loud. I compared this to a stock sc and the borlas has a bit more grumble at idle. When you rev up the car it doesn't sound mean like the magnaflows, it sounds smooth. it's hard to describe, wish i had a sound clip. hope this helps

How are the Greddy MX muffler sound? Are they louder than borla? I know the Greddy SP are really quiet but don't make them for the SC300.
mrshabo - do you have a full cat back borla exhaust system or just the muffler only?

I have the Greddy MX on my car, and I love it. It is a bit louder than doing just the mufflers, but VERY NICE. Not once have I complained that it is annoying, nor has my girlfriend I vote Greddy, but it is expensive. In that case ........ please read my sig
