you could just have the alt rewound to higher output. this is generally the way .

can you tell me a little more about that? i know very little about cars/engines. do you mean taking out the alternator and then modifying it? and mechanic can do this?

That's not a solution here, I used to build alternators. Call PHR.

It should have no problem with the stock Alternator. What I have in my car 3 JL12W7 subs with 3 x Phonix Gold 1200W for 2 channel and 800w for 4 channel. I am using the stock Alternator with my set up adn there is no problem. What you need is the big CAP. I receomend to use the PHONIX GOLD 15 FARAD.

the thing is, my alternator went bad about 2 years ago and my mechanic replaced it with an aftermarket one.

everynow and then when i drive, the battery light blinks and somtimes stays on the whole time while im driving at night or on the freeway. i am worried my alternator will take a crap again and dont want to be stranded on the road. i figured mind as well get a stronger alternator now just in case.

how long did you you had that system set-up? also, i read on a different forum that a Capacitor(sp?) puts more work on the electrical system. is this true?

NO the cap does not place more strain on the system that is the purpose of it.
My battery went bad to the point my radio didn't work and my battery light never came on is this normal ??? I know it works because with the key in the acc position it lights. whats up

Default Alternators

Toyota and Lexus sell 3 different alternators for the SC's.
60 amp
100 amp
120 amp.
Most SC's were factory equipped with the 100 amp.
So you could buy a new or rebuilt 120 amp unit.
That should be more than strong enough.

I may be off a little but as far as I know a cap stores energy so that when there is a large hit all at once like a really low bass note from high power subs the amp will have enough juice for it without putting excessive drain on the cars electrical system. The cap feeds the energy and then charges itself again waiting for the next hit.

I dunno but my SC300 came with an 80 amp alt. I replaced it once and it went out on me again, i had it rebuilt to 160amps. And i still dont think thats enough.

maybe someone can tell me wahts wrong here.. i will sit idle headlights on have my music playin not that loud but at a decent listin level, the bass will be hittin then all of a sudden the bass will go out. then if i rev the engine the bass will come back. whats goin on here? i have a cap on my system.

Default Bass Dropping Out

If you have a 160 Amp Alternator and this is happening and your lights and other electrical are not being effected then i would venture to guess the capacitor in your sound system is going out.
