Default Door fix for those that haven't yet

First off this may not be the right, wrong, or best way to do this, just the way I did it.
My door handles as many old SC's were coming apart from the door and the passenger side qwas almost incapable of closing the door. Here is my Fix.

1) Take off the door panels ( easy to do so I'll skip these instructions we probably all know em )
2) Clean all surfaces you will be working on.
3) Use a plastic type epoxy to repair any plastic that has cracked therefore weakening the door. This is time consuming, make sure you look at the entire door from all angles, Some of the screw bracings had cracked and come away from the door, the trim around the power window control. And mostly around the clips that attach to the actual dooe, on mine this area was destroyed.
You can also take these to a plastic welder, seeing as I like to do these things myself and didn't want to spend the money on a plastic welder I used what I could, filled, epoxied, then used a vinyl repair kit with a heating tool from pep boys. Does not look brand new but much better than before ( I am planning on getting new door panels also so didn't go for the " PERFECT " fix.
4) I went to Radio Shack and bought 2 large "project boxes" these are abd plastic boxes, they come with a decent size piece of brushed aluminum, it is very strong and you can drill it and bend it ( not easy ) to fit.
5) I cut and drilled this aluminum to go where the previous trim to door piece went. There are 2 screws that screw into the handle from underneath and the one that attaches the panel to the door. My bracket screws both to the handle then curves at about 80' down and becomes the bracket that the screw goes through to the door and extends a litle further down again. ( hope this part makes sense ) this eliminates the plastic breaking again.
6) Use the left over aluminum to make a similar bracket for the rear bolt of the door.
7) Reattach the door panel with your new brackets.
8) This took me about 2 or 3 hours a lot of time is spent waiting for epoxy to dry. My door handles are now solid as a rock and pull the dor closed very well and I am very pleased.
If you want it perfect I would say take them to a plastic welder but as far as bracing this way is very strong.

Yeah that is pretty much what the bracket looks like but you can also screw it to the bottom of the handle as well.
Just thought I'd contribute something to the site instead of just reading.
