Question black housing headlights?

hi everyone. I was wondering what everybody's thoughts were if I were to paint the housing of my SC headlights black? I'm aware it may not be JDM but a friend and I would like to pursue this option. He has done a few car's headlights a 96 civic and a 03 camry which looked exactly like it could come from the factory. In fact the camry looked really outstanding to be honest with you.

Has anybody done this before? Have any pics? If not would anybody be so kind as to photoshop it? btw my SC is black, and I think it might look pretty sharp if executed right. I just want to be able to maintain the sleek, clean look of my Lexus with a nice little added touch if room allows. Some feed back would be great! thanks in advance.

-mike

right on. I apologize, I am usually good at using the search. Although my orginal question did not only pertain whether anybody has done them. I just wanted to get a better consensus from the community of whether I should or not. Maybe I should paint them and get an extra set to switch it around?

Here it is on my white car, I can snap some better pictures if you want. I have also fixed my lower grill since this picture, it's just a white line in the middle now...

IMO would look great if you masked the chrome ring around the projector before painting. I did so on my supra headlights when i had them but havent had a chance to do it on the SC yet.

I think it looks great on a black car, but on any other color it does not look so good. If you want to try it, go for it. If you decide you hate it, it's a good excuse to get new lights.

it would look much better on a clack car. If the other colored cars had more white/black contrast such as the black polyurethane lip on the sc4s it would look better. Also, i noticed not very many people paint the inside of the turn signal. If the black were continuous, it would look more factory instead of tacked on. The chrome ring around the projector does make a world of difference in the look though.

if only they made CF lips for our cars, I'd buy it in a heartbeat...the chrome ring you talk about rscott isn't painted black, they just don't stand out as much as the ones on the supras do.

I've done a couple of the blacked out headlights, here are some:
Here is one of the entire headlight blacked out and I don't think it looks as nice.

Here is a picture of the headlight insert, you can tell here that we don't touch the projector "ring" anywhere so we can't really make it stand out much unless we do a HID retrofit...

If you look at the picture in my last post, with the 2 sc's, you can see that "chrome ring" you're talking about, it just doesn't stand out as much.

IMO black housing only looks good on dark cars. If you have a light color car I would recommend painting them the same color as your car. Give it a flush look.

Is there a paint out there that would make this actually shiny? if not how would it look with a layer of clearcoat? I think it would look really nice with the lines sanded off the cover <someone did that here already> and paint the inside black with clearcoat or have it painted at a body shop hummm

What kind of paint did you use for that result?
