Lexus SC430 better?
Alrighty, joined cause I'm interested in purchasing an SC. I was really thinking about an SC430, but I was talking to a couple "ricer" buddies of mine and they said a SC300/400 was better. Somthing about being able to swap the engine...? I LOVE cars, and I think both the 430 and the 300/400 look amazing, and I think the 300/400 would be better on the 'ol wallet anyway. Just wandering what the experienced and genius minds of this forum had to say. All pros and cons would be awesome!
Thanks a ton in advanced

It depends on what you are going to use the car for. If you want to pimp in a hardtop convertible, and don't plan on doing any crazy mods... go with a new SC430.
If you are looking for another pretty powerful V8 to cruise in, and don't want to shell out the money for the 430, the 400 is a GREAT choice too.
If you are going to mod the hell out of an SC.. go with a SC300. You can swap the motor in favor of the twin turbo Supra.. or you can buy a turbo kit for it and go from there.
It is all what your looking to do with the car to suit your needs.

In addition, you can go to the horse's mouth and just search/peruse the SC430 forum for feedback on what these guys like/dislike about their cars.
either way, you win IMO

It's refined features and changes detach the driver from the road and set them more towards luxury. You don't get the seat of the pants feeling you get when whipping a modded SC300 or SC400 through the turns on your favorite mountain run. Mod's for the 430 are even less plentiful than for us 300 and 400 guy's and that's really bad.
If you are looking for a sporty cruiser and don't plan on mods, the 430 is an eyecatching honey wagon ( i have seen more women than men driving them actually). If you want ***** to the wall fun, superchargers and turbo's, and lot's of supra swap potential goodies, hands down the Sc300 and SC400 are much more suitable for aftermarket go fast fun.
my 2 pennies.

it's kinda hard to go out and buy that. since the person is shopping for a production car, that's just a little bit irrelavant.

That SC430TT is Sweet! If only it had a hood!
As far as comparing the 1st Gen to the 2nd, I don't know,
they're just two completely different cars. I really don't even
think they should be compared. For starters, one's a coupe,
and the other's a roadster (but essentially turns into a coupe).
There's really no similarities and it's hard to imagine Lexus
changing a model more than they did with the SC line.
If you identitify your wants and needs, it should be an easy choice.

To be honest, you will need to let us know what your constraints would be and we can guide you in the right direction. As OLT mentioned above, if you want a car that will do it performance wise (ready aftermarket), then the Sc300/400 series may be the way to go. If you have extensive cash flow, then that company can make a TT to suit your taste, along with an awesome sound system

I'd find the best 300 I could and then invest some funds into it to get it exactly how I want it. Since you're already mentioning engine swaps and you know a few "ricers" whose opinions you seem to value it tells me that you want something a little more customized to tool around town. I'm more a fan of buying an $8000 vehicle and investing another $6k into it then I am of buying an $14k vehicle and driving it "as is." Just using those figures as examples of course. A quick story for you, a friend of mine wanted to buy an Accord back in the day when we were in high school, he had about $9500 to spend. He found a decent used one for like $5k from a private party and I told him to take the other $4500 and use it to fix the car up. He said no and decided to go to the dealership and buy a used accord for $9000. A few weeks later we're at Target and he can't find his car in the parking lot, there's a ton of dark green accords in the lot and he can't remember which one is his! Now I'm not saying that 430's are as abundant as Accords but you get the idea. What I'm trying to say is find what you like and make it your own, it doesn't have to be the most expensive vehicle on the market. I think a SC300 with a lot of care and thought put into it outshines a brand spanking new SC430 anyday, it doesn't take any individualism or style to buy a 430...just a big sachel of cash which any rich kid or widow can have...
