Default Good deal on '97 SC400 w/10k miles?

First time posting on the forum.

I recently found a 1997 SC400 with 10,800 miles at a local Mercedes dealer. 1 owner, perfect condition, Green w/ tan leather.

Dealer wants $21,500. Is this a fair price?

Thanks for the input,
Dean (future SC owner)

Default good deal?

Depends on your view.
$21,500 for a 97 with low low miles sounds geat to me if you're getting a waranty.
I saw a 97 in my local newspaper with 50,000 miles for 19,000. Saw a 98 with 80,000 miles for 18,000. Saw a 97 with over 90,000 mi for $12,500 (I'm looking for another car myself).
If the car looks new, drives new, service history checks out, do it. I would.

Forgot to add... two of these were sc300's. Forgot which.

Sounds good to me. I'd buy it if the body is mint.

<11,000 miles on an 8 year old car? Was it driven on Sundays only?
I drive that many miles every 4 months!

I agree with the other two guys. 10k on an SC400 is ultra rare. If you like the color and interior color.
This is a keeper

Thanks for the replies.

Yes, it's really beyond mint condition. One owner, garaged and entirely stock (even the OEM tires). I think that I'll go for it.

By the way, I missed out on a 1992 SC400 with 18k miles on Ebay. It sold for the "Buy It Now" price of $16,500 in less than 24hrs!

With the 1997, I figure I'm getting an overall better deal.

Default 97 sc

Great, you won't be sorry for getting this car. Don't forget get some 19's as soon as your budget can handle it. The 97 with 19's, staggered setup looks fantastic.

MY CU Black Book Retail price for an extra clean 97 SC400 with 10,800 miles is $19,375. Try to see if you can get the dealer to lower the price. 10,800 miles is almost a new car, great find.

I'd seriously look carefully at the car's history on why it is 10k. There could've been problems, damages as to why the owner never driven it ..etc.

Well, it's a done deal. $21,000. The 1997 SC400 is being delivered tomorrow.

I can hardly believe it myself. The car is immaculate and actually has 10,600 miles.

One owner, completely original, no damage/paintwork, all records. After searching through Autotrader, Ebay and cars.com, I think that I may have one of the lowest mileage 92-00 SC400 in the country!

It turns out that the original owner was a 60yr man with a sizeable luxury car collection. He apparently died recently and his widow simply traded in 2 of his cars for a new Mercedes at a NJ dealer. This dealer usually wholesales it's traded-n used cars, but this one was so exceptional they decided to sell it along side their other high-end preowned cars (mostly Mercedes).

The price seemed a bit high but where are you going to buy an essentially new SC400 for $21k? I almost went for a 1995 SC400 in St Louis with 50k miles for $16,500. Factor in the service updates needed (i.e. timing belt, tires, fluids...maybe $1500) and the $800 delivery charge to my home state, I paid $2200 more for a car that was 5 years newer and had 40k miles less. When it come to used cars, I always suggested buying the newest, lowest mileage example you can afford. It always pays off better in the end.

Thanks for your replies. Hopefully pics tommow!

Default 97 sc

Congrats, I think you got a great deal. Three years ago, I bought my 95 sc with 28,000 miles on it for $24,000. I had a yr warranty though.
Get some wheels.

10, 800 miles on a car that old shows it hasn't been driven much. There may be moisture / sediment in the fluids from not being warmed up enough. If the dealer has not done so, I would change all of the fluids...engine oil, transmission, differential, brake, and power steering. Also charge the battery fully.

It's finally here! Sorry, but I actually stated the incorrect mileage

The car needs a good detailing and some Zaino. Can't wait for the weather to warm up!
