I got real tired of it on the visor, make the visor useless. Where it's mounted now still gives me full use of the visor

Not ashamed either - just don't really want to advertise it. I'm in Cal too, so there's no worries about the law. I always figured that if I do get pulled over - it's gonna happen one of these days - there's no way I'm gettin' a warning if the cop sees that thing, ya know?
It's legal in my state (NJ), but not some of the states I travel to. I'm more concerned about sticky fingers making off with my "$400 top-of-the-line radar detector"

Also, I don't think there's enough tint (at least on my windshield) to affect the range. Cetainly my back window is much darker (35% tint), but those d@mn laser cruise controls have no problem setting it off (and scaring the bejeebers out of me!). And as for radar detection, the higher it's mounted on the windshield, the greater the detection range will be, guaranteed!

Feel stupid for asking this, but where is it? (If that's the remote in the mirror, then that's unbelievably slick.) Where's the main unit?

A friend of mine made a 3rd brake light out of his. I'm thinkin' about that too. I'd like to have my passenger sun visor back, and would love to get away from those suction cups...

Are you talking about the 1.8 or is there a newer version?

They sell those. A few of the M3 people have them. Too bad they don't make them anymore...

if your main unit is mounted below the steering wheel wont that mess with the range of radar and make it almost impossible to pick up laser

IMO by the time you pick up laser, you're already busted so there's no use trying to mount your radar anywhere short of the very top of your windshield.
As for the range of the K and Ka, they're radio waves, so putting the detector in the dash won't have much effect on the range.
I parked about a mile away from a HP with a radar unit and tried hiding my Passport 8500 below the dash.
It showed the signal as being just as strong for Ka.

I do keep my radar detector by my rearview mirror though in hopes that I get a dumb cop pointing the laser continuously, so when I come over the hill, I know he's lasering before he can really hit the car (they usually aim somewhere near your front license plate......which is why I don't have one )

So, the main unit is attached to the roofliner? Did I understand that correctly? Is it attached to the windshield (with suction cups) or sun visor (with the clip) or is it permanently mounted some other way? The mirror thing is sweet, but I'm not even that far yet - I'm just wondering where the best place to mount the main unit is, so that it's less conspicuous.

Thx.

RMMGS4 hid the remote display on his GS400 in the dash clock unit, and then mounted the nain unit on the rear windshield. The same can be done here if you plan on using a remote display...

Suction cups, or some sort of fixed mount?
