Where did you mount your Valentine 1?

Currently, mine's hanging from the passenger's sun visor. That's worked fine for years, but I figured if someone found a way to mount it above the rearview mirror, I'd definitely be up for that.

Not ashamed either - just don't really want to advertise it. I'm in Cal too, so there's no worries about the law. I always figured that if I do get pulled over - it's gonna happen one of these days - there's no way I'm gettin' a warning if the cop sees that thing, ya know?

A friend of mine made a 3rd brake light out of his. I'm thinkin' about that too. I'd like to have my passenger sun visor back, and would love to get away from those suction cups...

IMO by the time you pick up laser, you're already busted so there's no use trying to mount your radar anywhere short of the very top of your windshield.
As for the range of the K and Ka, they're radio waves, so putting the detector in the dash won't have much effect on the range.
I parked about a mile away from a HP with a radar unit and tried hiding my Passport 8500 below the dash.
It showed the signal as being just as strong for Ka.
I do keep my radar detector by my rearview mirror though in hopes that I get a dumb cop pointing the laser continuously, so when I come over the hill, I know he's lasering before he can really hit the car (they usually aim somewhere near your front license plate......which is why I don't have one )

RMMGS4 hid the remote display on his GS400 in the dash clock unit, and then mounted the nain unit on the rear windshield. The same can be done here if you plan on using a remote display...
