I just saw a pair of Dry Carbon Fiber doors for the sc300 and 400??!! Wierd. Never knew they had them. Available through t&e vertex i think. About $5000.

i think $5000 for both, you would probably weigh 1000 lbs less with the carbon fiber doors, hood, and trunk.

 

maybe on second thought not 1,000 lbs but probably close to it.

Me and my friend just started making molds for CF fenders, and doors... not sure how much they will be though if we ever sold them.

 

No way in hell. A stock hood is 85 pounds. (I love how sturdy these cars are) A complete carbon fiber hood weighs 15, so weight savings there would be about 70.

The doors are heavy, but lets say the doors each weigh as much as the hood, which is substantially bigger, 70 x2.

And the trunk, I have no idea what that weighs, but lets say going to carbon fiber would lose 100 lbs...

Approximately 330 lbs best case scenerio. Nowhere near 1,000, but believe me, 300 lbs is a noticeable difference. I dont know where these people get off charging 5,000 bucks for two door panels when a carbon fiber hood is only 500. Thats rediculous, 5,000 dollars seriously can buy you a new, albeit NOT mint condition SC.

 

t&e can stick them somewhere, outrageous prices

 

They key word is "dry" carbon fiber. T&E also has a Dry Carbon Bonnet for around $4,250. Dry carbon is a lot different then the "$500" carbon fiber hoods most people have. Do some research on it.

 

no need to research, it could be made out of gold, no ones paying 5 Gs for doors.

I am not saying that people should buy them. I am saying that they shouldn't be compared to the "$500" carbon fiber hoods out there because they are totally different. Dry carbon fiber is both lighter and structurally superior to regular hand-laid carbon fiber.

For really realz......you all can keep your c/f doors, I plan to fill my doors with concrete and put a steel plate behind my front bumper. lol...j/k! I'd rather live in the event of t-boning! And for $5k, yeah, I'd buy another SC...or throw some major goodies into my existing one...
