Why is my SC 400 quicker with O/D off?

Question Why is my SC 400 quicker with O/D off?

I have been trying driving with overdrive off for the first time since i got the car 10 mons ago to see if i can get better gas mileage and i notice that my car is much quicker. Can someone explain why is this?

u get worse gas mileage with it off. instead of using 4 gears, it only uses 3 so it keeps the car in each gear for a lot longer before it ****fs.

it lowers the gear ratios so your engine has to revv higher to get to the same speed... and you have more power when the engine is revving higher thus the car being quicker.

Overdrive is 4th gear. You're holding it in 3rd gear, which puts the car into its powerband better... but because the engine is revving higher more often, gas economy suffers.

Yup, I utilize my fourth gear at speeds over 40 mph, like on a highway....
