So I managed to work out a deal with someone for a 1997 Lexus SC300 at 98k miles for $7500. He claims to have taken care of it very well and the carfax comes clean with nothing wrong.
Unfortunately, its in another state and I'm having a close friend check it out for me befoer I send the check. He is going to test drive it for me. Is there anything specific I should ask him to look for and is there any recommended mechanics in the Dallas area for Lexus that I should send him to make sure there won't be any costly maintenance or repairs down the line?

Hey man,
I would take carfax at face value - I myself, and several other people I know have been screwed previously after using carfax. Where is the car coming from - which state?? Some states let you wash a title - eg clear the title after it has been wrecked - be careful!!

The same state where I got screwed!! Texas is not the place to buy cars sight unseen. Not to say that there are not many good cars there - but they do have the title cleaning - which is where I got screwed. I had the car for sale, next thing I get an email from the previous owner with pictures of it totalled.
He got a check for the car and it was bought at auction, somewhat put back together and then I was unlucky enough to buy it from ebay. Bastards!!
Good luck man but please be careful.
