Need input: 17" wheels and a body kit, look ok?
Wondering how you guys think the JIC kit would look on an SC300 with only 17" wheels on it. I didnt want to go to big on the wheels to keep tire costs down and keep my ride comfort. I dont know if I want to go with the JIC kit, do a 97+ front end conversion, or just keep the body stock. I plan on lowering the car after I get the wheels on and can determine how much of a drop I want...
Would a body kit look wierd or would I be alright with my wheel size?

That would look goofy and half-assed as hell. Don't do it. If you MUST have 17's due to ride comfort then scrap the kit project and just go with the '97 conversion. If you want it to look right wth the kit then you have to get 19's at a minimum, DON'T HALF STEP. Putting 17's on an SC is a complete waste of time and effort. Why step up a mere inch in rim size? What's the point of that? It will make no difference at all in terms of bettering the appearance of the car, in fact it will detract from the appearance if you have a body kit and some small rims. I saw someone with a body kit with 18 inch rims and I thought it looked weird, and you're considering going smaller than that?! Like I said man, you will regret that move if you go through with it....

My only 17" wheel choice would be Supra TT wheels. Lowered on a stock body car 92-2000, it looks real clean. Check the gallery for pics.

I looked into 17" rims as well when I was thinking about my wheel upgrade. The only ones that appealed to me were the Supra wheels, and even those were only slightly better than my stockers, not worth the money or effort to put them on only to step up an inch in rim size. So then I looked into 18's...a little better, not too horrible of a ride, made the car look slightly better, and tires were still affordable. Then I looked into 19's...absolute perfection for the SC's wheel wells. I was completely satisfied. But I thought, if you like 19's then look into some dubs. So, I also looked at some 20's for my car. Waaaay too big. Makes the car look like it's perched atop the wheels monster-truck style. Plus I didn't want to deal with the headache of possible rubbing issues. I settled on the 19's and it was the best decision I could have made.
mteele, if you go with the 97 conversion then 18's or 19's would look killer with the car slightly dropped. If you go 17's then the only ones that look right to me are the TT wheels. Good luck with the project, I want to see your SC looking tight.

I agree - a kit on 17" wheels = scraping the ground if lowered to look correct, or HUGE gap with no lowering. Either way - 19 or larger with the kit, or 17" only with the 2000 MY upgrade

Well I probably should have gone for the supra TT wheels, but I already have some 17" Konig wheels that I got. With the TT wheels I couldnt rotate them around, which would ave cost me some serious cash in tires. In the future I may go up to some 18" wheels, but at this point I am not sure. I had to find some wheels that I liked for a decent price, since I am on a tight budget right now. I just bought the car and it NEEDS new wheels and tires among many other things, so I just did th best I could.
As of now, assuming I dont put 18" wheels on it the future, how much of a drop should I go with? I'm thinking that with only 17" wheels, a 1" drop all around will be my best option. I would love to get coilovers so I can fine tune it, but like Iike I said, I'm on a budget Thats what happens when you are a full time self supporting college student And I know I should do it right the first time, so if I just go with springs/shocks I wont be getting coilovers anytime soon.

Yeah, Supra wheels are staggered.
Well, I got my car back a little while ago. The wheels look really nice. But now I REALLY need to lower the car some. The gap in the front between the fender and tire is like 4 inches!!! I'll post a pic later tonight. I am going to order springs, shocks, and new bushings tonight as well. I may go with more then an inch drop, since the front needs it so baddly.
Also had the tranny looked at, and found some issues, but I will save that thread for the correct forum.
