Talking Your opinion on a Sc300 5 speed. Price to pay?

Hello fellow CL members.
As many of you are aware of, a sc300 5 speed is hard to come by due to limited numbers out there. I have been looking for 6-8 months now for a low mileage 94-97 and I have seen some falling apart, some overpriced, and missed out on two FINE low mileage models because I sat on the pot toooooo long!!! I have entertained to see one by a CL member who lives close to me (gulf coast) but have not seen it yet due to "issues in his court." Another one is a little further away. It is a 95 with 127000 miles. It is a 8 to 9 out of 10 on my scale. What would you guys be willing to pay for one like this.

Thanks and any input on what to pay for any other 94-97 year model based on its mileage would be nice or if anyone is selling theirs with low mileage let me know. Thanks

www.edmunds.com or kelly's blue book will give you good ideas on what they should be going for.
I know of forum members here who have purchased 94-96SC300 5speeds with 100k-150k for between 6k to 10k. good luck on the hunt.

Yes I do use Nada, Edmunds, and KBB extensively along with Carfax. However sometimes this does not always fly due to the seller either knowing what his car can go for or not. I do use these "bluebook" tools as my guide.

Just as a basis of comparison:

My SC3 5 speed:

Interior was pretty crappy -- needs new leather seats (books or seats? crap!)

Exterior was pretty good -- typical dings and one kinda bad dent, no paint chipping.

All original panels except the front bumper and driver's headlight

68.7k miles, just had the 60k service.

I got it for $9,500

just keep looking. Find a nice one and pull the trigger. And don't worry about distance, there are plenty of good shipping companies, just buy the extra insurance!

my advice to you is to keep looking, cause patience pays off, but if you see one potentially good, jump on it cause it won't last, that's happened to me twice this year, both sold in a week. though i've been looking for one for a year now looking at one today, wish me luck

Where did all of you find your 5 speeds? Autotrader? This forum? Lexus Owner's Club? Cars.com? Or?
And, for another couple frames of reference, I really trust IntelliChoice (www.intellichoice.com) and also I subscribe (have since '98) to CPI Value Guide (now owned by Black Book)
Regards, and I'm looking too, but not actively yet until maybe mid to late September
Tom

P.S. Think it's either the 5 speed SC300 ('92-'97) or maybe a '90-'96 300ZX non turbo or a '98-'01 2.5RS Impreza, but I am leaning toward the Lexus if the price/condition is right. The less Bling the better, of course.

Guys, is there someplace on the CL site where we can put "asking price" and "purchase price" of cars we buy? (or, asking price/selling price for cars we sell?) We obviously don't want to say from whom we bought the cars (or who we sold the cars) to, but maybe if we could put this info. up someplace it might be interesting to track.
'Ya think?

Tom
P.S. I have a sort of history of cars that have sold on my website, nothing scientific, just FWIW.

i bought mine in 93 5spd 3 months ago with 177k miles on it for $3500 on ebay.(i must of caught all the bidders while they were sleeping) it had a clear title and was in garage kept condition 8.5 out of 10 inside and out. The only issue was the door was catching the fender. You'll get the best deals for cars with minor issues. Most people will pass on it and most of the time you can fix it for pocket change. The motor in these cars are bulletproof I have no doubt in my mind that i will make it to 300k.

If i were you i'd open my options mores as people tend to look for rediculas prices when it comes to a 5spd with under 110k miles thinking its super rare and people are willing to pay alot more for it and also dont let distance play a factor i know alot of people who traveled over 500 miles to pick up thier sc 5sp.

I find that at least 2 or 3 go up for sale in these classifieds or on ebay every month.

Wow, I have you all beat on how much I got my SC300 5 spd for Picked it up maybe a month ago for $2000 and it had 183k miles on it.. The guy had it up on eBay and only lived 20 minutes away from me. His reserve was $1800 and there were some other people bidding on it. I offered him a buyout of $2000 and he took it.
