I'm considering selling my sc300 and purchasing a 2002 manual IS.
I just want a new car and I can't find anything else I like except for a 1997 SC300 (7 year loan rule) that I would buy.
I'd take everything out of my current SC and sell the car stock, then put my 2JZGTE into the IS.
What do you guys think?

I want to know why you're disatisfied with your current SC? I mean trust me I know the "little things" can get annoying but it's still les expensive than doing what you're thinking about. Is the IS an upgrade to you? I don't see it as such. To me the IS is just a nicer Civic or a lesser BMW 3 series. I don't particularly care for them.

Current sc has 160000 miles, needs paint and is a 1992. Sure I love the car, but i'd rather have a newer car.
I HATE tan interior as well
I'm also considering a 1997 with BLACK interior and a 5 speed....but just can't find one.
So if anyone knows where a 97 5 speed is, let me know.

I think modding an IS like you've done with your SC may be a bad idea. As you've probably researched, turboing an IS can be very expensive, and I agree with The Locsta, an IS is a step below an SC because you can have the same power, but along with it you get more luxury, as well as a closer relation to the Supra. This leads to a larger abundance of parts. I think a turbo SC300 is a beautiful thing with it's timeless shape, and big long body.

If you are going to do it, do it right.
The IS is nice, but it is a smaller car. This meaning smaller as far as up front leg/head room, and also lower in the lineup. If you are going to do anything, IMO, it would be go for the GS300 and do the GTE swap there.
Good luck on your decision.
If I was changing, that would be my decision (actually I would go for GS4xx)

Old cars can be a pain. I understand that.
I do not understand that you are willing to do engine swap twice plus pay for new car. If you can do both swaps yourself or have resources to pay somebody to do it for you, it mean you can rebuild your current SC to like new condition easly.
Fix up SC, save some money and later get IS for daily driver while keeping SC for play car.

I have had both in the driveway recently and my thought are:
IS is slower
IS has lot's of road and wind noise, less luxurious
IS has plastic everywhere V/S the leather in the Sc
IS looks more like cars seen everywhere today.
**************************************
SC is unique
SC has more power (my sc400 does, not a 300)
SC has great wind and road noise protection
SC is more comfortable on the road, in the seat, and anywhere you can drive the two and tell the difference.
SC parts are cheaper and more plentiful to replace.

I'm not worried about if it's slower or not (look in my sig). I work at a supra tuning shop, so resources for parts and prices don't matter much. The current motor I have now will go into the IS (if i do get it).
Is the SC that much more luxerious than the SC? Mine has cloth, and i guess the lowest model you can find. I don't see it very luxerious.

ANd Id definatly go with a GS300, but the auto kills it. If anyone knows who has a conversion kit for the car or any info on converting it, please let me know. I did see in Japan some custom 6 speed GS's.
I do have a clutch pedal etc etc from a SC than might work...

I happen to like the IS but I wouldn't sell or trade my SC for one. I sat in an IS a couple of weeks ago to get a feel for it. Not too bad. Plastic stuff in the interior but so are a lot of cars. I found it no worse than the G35. My problem is it didn't feel like a Lexus. Felt more like a Honda or regular Toyota. That's not a bad thing it just isn't the Lexus feel. I would drive the car, definitely. Just wouldn't trade my SC for one.
You're probably not going to get a lot for the SC anyway. Keep it and still get another car.

I like the IS and all, but they are EVERYWHERE. I literally see atleast 10 ISs a day here where I live. I have only seen about 3 other SCs here in my area, and they have an A/T. There are even more TT Supras here then SCs. If you ask me, I love having a car that hardley anyone else has. I'm personally never going to get rid of my SC300.
