power on signal for external amp
#1
Hey All,
(on a 94 sc300)
I've added a line converter onto the rear subwoofer speaker to get an RCA signal,
and added a 12V power line off of the battery.
But where can get a singal to turn on/off the amp?
Can I tap somewhere on the factory amp under the CD changer? if that is what is
under the factory cd changer....
Or can I tap from the factory headunit?
Thanks Ken

Yep, there is line level turn on. You really did not need the line level converter, even for the sub. I tapped into the line out from the head unit to the factory amps. see my post under stereo hack or click here:

Hi,
yeap I've checked it out, thanks.
I tried tapping line #6? the one that is gray.
The sigal here will turn on my amp, BUT it turns on my amp
every time the car it on (acc or started).
I just want to turn on the amp when the head unit is on instead of all the time.
I tried tapping the other lines that go from the head unit to the amp,
but didn't have any luck with them.
Can you explain how I can not use a line level converter?
My amp is an older fosgate that requires RCA inputs, but I thought the factory Pioneer Premium system didn't have RCA outputs.
Thanks
Ken

hackin continued
Hmm, I double checked and the grey wire is an ACC lead - it is on when the car is on. The pink wire under that is the remote on from the head unit.
It was easy to locate. I stuck my VOM lead into it and grounded the other one, then just turned on the stereo to confirm. It was outputing around 11.8 VDC.
There are two harnesses going into the small amp under the CD player.
A 10 pin harness (outputs) and a 14 pin harness (inputs)
handle this amp. You are correct, there is no RCA out, you need to convert the wire.
Instead of using the signal which has already been altered by the stock amp, I unplugged the amp and used the inputs to it. To convert these to RCA I cut the ends of my RCA cords and soldered the stereo ground (labeled G - One ground for all channels) to the neg signal on the RCA and the channel signal to the pos. The positive on an RCA is the center wire.
These RCA''s I plugged right into my JL Audio amps.
This took care of the interior speakers. The subwoofer is on a seperate amp. This amp is on the rear deck. It is the size of your hand. I found the wires for woofer neg and woofer pos and connected these to an RCA which went to my Sub amp. I used the same remote turn on as before, though I am certain this amp has a remote turn on also.
Hope this helps, it really was easy. Email me with ?'s I am around all day.
