Default May the God's strike fury against my car!

Guys,

As usual I am ranting about my dam car. Apparently my lights decided they were gonna go on strike. My left headlight, both tailights, tag light and the other small bulbs at the front of my car ( flash when u set ur alarm) all have quit working within the last week.

I wanna scream!!!!!!

The car runs like a dream - never have the slightest problems. Never not started, never runs rough or stalls. Just great. But damn I am getting to the end of my patience with this thing. I wanna hang in there because I love the car but I just don't think I can take it much longer.

I don't have the $$$$ to keep pumping into the car - but if I try and sell it I will get raped> What to do?

Not familiar with the rest of your plight, but as for the bulbs, just replace them and move on. They are not that expensive.

I wish it were that simple - it is not a simple case of replacing the bulbs, they burn out every couple of weeks. My problem is the underlying problem that is destroying the electrical system in my car.

Does it have a name?

Seriously, have the alternator checked for what it puts out at idle and at 3000 rpms. you may have a regulator with an open diode causing a burst of energy. AKA- voltage spike, or peak.

Yes, I call her Monet - looks good from a distance!! Her middle name is POS

What should it be reading at idle and at 300k?

Peace,

At 300k rpms, you should probably be reading about 12 million volts. (sorry, it struck me funny and I couldn't resist. real answer I can only guess 14v)

at idle it can range between 13.2 and 13.9 depending on the alternators regulator and how strong/old it is.

it should be 13.8 + with some higher rpm's.

None of this is relevant after you get to 55 and the flux capacitor kicks in

I think that is my problem - damn flux capacitor is playing up again. I contacted the Doc to see if he had one laying around, but apparently Michael J Fox took it - bastard!!

You say it runs perfectly so what other types of problems have you had? Just curious as to why your so frustrated with an SC.

If the front end bulbs are burning out regularly, the most basic problem would seem to be a short in your electrical system somewhere. I'd suggest taking the car to an electrical specialist, if there is any such thing in your area. I have a local one I like, but it's probably too far away for you.

As an afterthought, I did have an odd problem once with a fusable link that was bad, but it only failed when it got hot. When the shop tested it, it tested ok because the system wasn't heated up. Took them forever to diagnose it and I burned up 3 alternators in the process.

That's suprising. I have a '93 with 195K and it's never had a single electrical/electronic problem.
Lexus electronics are the most reliable in the industry and this is a rare case. Sorry to hear.
