Default I should be shot for posting this thread!

Okay people. Money is tough for me right now with just moving to Cali and al the traveling for other things I'm doing. So I am wondering how much you guys would pay for my car IF I was to decide to sell it. Nothing it set in stone, this is purely a feeler.
What would you pay for this?

1993 SC300 5 speed- Royal Jade Green with tan interior
128k miles
97+ rear spoiler
17" chrome supra tt wheels (9.0/10 condition) with new rear tires
supra tt spare
Front supra tt brakes with cross drilled/slotted rotors (brakes have about 10k on them)
Flex a lite dual electric fans
Optima yellow top battery
Alpine Headunit 7894
XM Radio with antenna
Alpine V12 5 channel amp
JL Audio 10ib4 subwoofer
Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.5" component fronts
Infinity Kappa 3 way coaxial rears
Sylvania Silverstar 9006 headlights and 18w parking light mod
edit* 5% limo tint all around
edit2* Viper 2 way remote paging alarm system

Things needed to fix:
Has the common cracks in the a/c vent and on the door sill/arm rest
Front and rear bumper need repainting
Rear main seal has very slight leak- could be partially caused by use of synthetic oil
Has had most of the 120k serivce items done, but not the timing belt and water pump. Have those for sale seperately if wanted.

Paint is in good shape, but has the normal things of a 93 like a few scratches and a few rock chops on the hood.

Like I said, this is only a feeler. I want to go ***** to the wall on an sc, but not this one. I want a 97 for that. Right now I don't have the money for mods on this or a 97, so I'm questioning the wisdom in continuing to pay for this one if it's not what I want in the end.

So how much would you guys honestly pay for this if you were interested?

Thanks,
Tim

Uhhhh... its not for sale. The whole point of this is to get an idea of what it MIGHT be worth in case I do decide to sell it.

"worth" and what you would actually get for the car are two very separate things. I know someone right now with money in hand looking to buy an SC, but they only want to spend about $6k-$7k. A car is only "worth" what someone is willing to pay for it, not how much the owner has invested in it. Trust me, I know, I've taken major losses on cars I've built up in the past. Now if you're willing to consider selling it close to $6k let me know and let me know soon, I plan to match this person with an SC within a month.

Sorry Mike- not likely. $6k is less than what this would go for bone stock

No worries man, they'd actually prefer a bone stock one anyway. This is a younger person so I don't want them in anything too out there if you know what I mean, because as soon as a "mod" trips they'll be calling me about it. You know how that goes.

I have to tend to agree with mike on this one. I feel you will get more than 6k (not a whole lot more though). Mike is right though, mods don't add any value to a car at all. I have a 92SC400 with 80,000 miles, and I have everything done from custom interior seats, custom carbon fiber interior, rims, body kit, and the list goes on but those were some of the more costly things. And if I fetched around 11,000 for my car IF I WANTED TO SELL IT, WHICH I DON"T. I would be happy. So, the 400's do tend to be more than the 300's and your mod list is nice but not as expensive as myself and some of the other guys on this site.

What I would suggest to you is to sell off whatever aftermarket stuff you can. Put the old stuff in. And you'll get the same amount as you would if you had all the mods in the car still. I know thats what I would do anyway if i was considering selling my car.

A PERFECT EXAMPLE WAS VSSC400 had his 400 for sale (HE HAS A SICK AMOUNT OF WORK DONE TO HIS CAR) AND HE WAS ONLY ASKING AROUND LIKE 11,000 FOR HIS CAR. AND HE'S GOT QUITE A BIT OF MONEY INVESTED IN HIS CAR. IT'S ALL DEPENDING ON IF YOU GET LUCKY AND FIND SOMEBODY WANTING TO BUY A MODDED OUT CAR. USUALLY YOU DON'T CAUSE PEOPLE (LIKE MYSELF) FEEL THAT THEY WERE PROBABLY DRIVEN HARD BUT KEPT NICE.

I'd much rather prefer to buy my lexus from an old lady (like I did) and make it my own, my way.

I'd say High 7, 8 or 9 -- 9k if you find the right buyer.

Rims: $600
Brakes w/ rotors: $400
Alpine Headunit 7894: $160
Alpine V12: $150
Infinity Kappa Rears: $150
Infinity Kappa Components: $150
JL 10ib4 (no idea how much): $100

that totals out to $1710.00

I tried to go cheaper where I could, and I worked off of ebay pricing.

let's assume that the car has about 2k worth of mods in it right now.

6k for the car bone stock would be kinda low. 5 speeds tend to go for more money, unless you find a stupid seller.

128k on the clock, with a slight rear main seal leak. My first suggestion would be to get that repaired and sqaure away the 120k service. With that done, you'll have an easier time selling the car for more money. People don't like suprises with used cars, and if they know you just had it serviced, they'll feel much better about it.

Front and rear bumpers are almost never perfect, so that's that.

~6.7-7.5k for your car stock would seem fair if it had ALL the maintenance completed. Look on auto trader -- there's some automatics up there right now for that much... one salvaged titled one for $4000 too.

And bladez, SC400s don't fetch much more than a SC300... SAFC on a SC300 5 speed, and you'll be right there with an SC400... people are not completely ignorant to the aftermarket of the SC anymore... it was on the cover issue of SCC after all.

also bladez, your bomex kit will most likely have a negative impact on the price of your car, while a 97 front bumper would have cost less and bumped the value up IMO.

just my two pennies.

Supra I totally agree with you. My bomex does fetch less value. And as I said it will now attract a much younger group than if my car were stock but that is my flavor, not everybodies. And you point out the 300 being more than the 400, again it's all in the eye of the beholder but the average person just shopping for a coupe is till more likely go with a bigger engine(that whole 5 speed thing is just for us enthusiasts, yes then you will get more money )most people who buy luxury cars don't want a stick. Just imagine telling somebody you added an SAFC now it's faster than the 400, great but now you startled a person who has no idea what your talking about. Hense you no longer attract an older crowd. You have now limited yourself to selling to people familiar with aftermarket mods and younger kids who like those things. This is nothing new, everybody knows modding the car does absolutely nothing to a cars value. And to have Rims and a very nice radio system ain't in no way gonna make somebody just looking to buy a nice looking SC3 or 4 for an additional 1700 dollars unless you take out put in old equip and sell aftermarket stuff on the side.

You bring up a bunch of things that really make a lot of sense. I agreed 6k was a low number...but the bottom line is MODS DON'T MAKE A CAR SELL THEY HINDER THE SALE (UNLESS YOU HAVE A 97+ CONVERSION) And is that really a huge mod when you think of it. It looks very nice. But, it's not an obvious mod. So, that point was an obvious one of course the 97 bumper won't effect the price.

I can't tell you and I'm sure you've seen for yourself. Some of the turbo guys have tried selling their cars on this site and they have some of the sickest modded cars ever (big time custom engine work). And it's hard as anything to sell. THE ONLY CARS THAT I SEE SELL THAT ARE MODDED AND STILL GET TOP DOLLAR ARE THE SUPRA'S AND THATS ABOUT IT.

I wouldn't put SAFC on a car I was going to sell to an old dude -- they'd most likely ruin the engine or something.

That's why I said if he found the right buyer

Even modded MKIVs are a hard sale... the price of an averege MKIV TT is dropping. (checkout SF)

The problem is that younger buyers are the ones that tend to prefer modded cars, and those are the guys that usually need a loan since they haven't hit their prime earning years yet. Problem is that the bank won't usually finance an 11 year old car, so you're more than likely going to have to find someone with cash that's looking for a 'niche' car. Don't get me wrong, i'm sure the car is very nice man, but the car stock can be found for five grand. I'd say if you have the time/inclination you'd do better returning it to stock, recouping some money by selling those parts, and then sell the car....if you get anything over five grand I would take it and be done. Then again advice from a stranger is usually worth what you've paid for it. It may be better for you to hold out for just the right buyer. Good luck either way.

Letsride.....Achtung! Before you start goosestepping, you should realize he's not selling the car yet, he wanted some advice...isn't that what we're here for??
