I'm trying to save a little $$ and was wondering if this is a straight-forward job or are there plugs that are difficult to get to?
TIA!

Lightbulb SparkPlug Change

It takes some time and effort

You have to remove the throttle body/intake....about 10 or 12 vacuum lines, connections and throttle cables. Some of the bolts are difficult to access.
I did my own last year with the help of the service manuals. I did over a three day weekend, I cant really say how long it should take for a professional. I took my time and really cleaned everything. The throttle body can get quite dirty. I also changed the valve cover gaskets and spark plug wires. I would suggest doing this because its so much work you might not want to do it again for awhile.

thanx gadget, I didn't realize it was that involved! I guess I'd better look into buying the service manuals. Anyone know where I can get them and how much I should expect to pay?
TIA!

Its a 2 hour job first time if you have the right tools.
Once familiar, about 1 to 1.5 hours. As mentioned the throttle body has to come off. A T-handled spark plug puller works wonders in this application. Its basically a socket with an attached U joint, a 6 inch extension followed by an adjustable T handle grip to prevent overtightening. Its all one piece so you won't end up pulling the socket off the extension as in conventional tools.

As always make sure engine is adequately cool before changing plugs and be extra careful with the wires. The wires are expensive, but will last a long time if you're careful not to yank on them.

Hey SC,
I just checked a few places on the net and the ignition wire set cost around $50-$60. Is that too much?
TIA

I would strongly suggest using only the Lexus wires. They're pricey but very high quality and every cent.

A couple of turbo shops have recommended the stock wires as well.

Smile Wires

I used the stock wires. They were around $90 if I remember. Like SC300T say's....you dont want to skimp here. They are high quality.
Once you get it apart you will see why the stock wires might be best. There isnt alot of room in there. Some after market wires might be larger in diameter and tough to fit in well. Good Luck!
