But if you're gonna go with white, just make sure its a nice pearl

If your gonna paint it white...You should for a bright white...like Sikkens paint...so it won't look like the stock white...a little different....It looks really clean...even when it's not...

Most of those pearl Tri-coats will cost $400 or more just for base and mid-coat. A decent clear should be at least $200/gallon sprayable. I just spent $900 in materials alone to paint a T-Type Regal a stock silver metallic, with only door jams. The clear I used was over $300/gallon and I used 1 1/2 gallons, but still. I hope your boy is getting a deal on materials. Otherwise, I would make sure your getting good stuff. Good stuff includes- PPG Deltron, Dupont Chromapremier or Chromabase, Sikkens, Valspar. There are others, but these are what I have used with good results.

The high-end body shops in my area use Sikkens, Standox, Spies Hecker(Standox and Spies Hecker are DuPont), and Nexa Autocolor(PPG's Euro paint line).

I think V8RWDHP said it best....it's going to cost him at least that much in materials unless he's using inferior quality products. Four bills for a paint job? With a colour change? Sounds rediculous. A quality high-end job can be very expensive but can absolutely make or break your car. If it works out for you then that's great man....i'm about to spend eight grand-plus to have mine disassembled and refinished. Let us know how it works out.

For $400.00 better hope the person doing the work knows how to block sand. If not you'll see every little dent in the body. The shiner the paint the more the defects stand out.
