Default Odometer question

Odometer question

If I buy a complete instrument cluster out of a wrecked SC to customize, will the odometer need changed out of it to obtain my original miles? I am not sure where the mileage is stored, cluster, ECU, or elsewhere.

Yep, in the cluster I believe.

Just have your own customized by Lextech.

So if it is in the cluster, what part of my original cluster do I need to change to keep my low mileage? Is the odometer itself changeable or is it actually the whole board?

One other question. My car is a 97, I found a 95 cluster, are they the same or will I need a 97?

Default 97+ uses LCD

95 uses LED for odometer.(Digits are lid; Amber color)
97+ uses LCD for odometer.(Whole back panel is lid and actual digits are black)

So would they interchange or is the wire hook up different?

I actually don’t really like the LCD display, it looks kinda cheap.

I know this post is like 5 years old, But im trying to figure out if on the same year, swapping the odometer part out will change the mileage over, or if it is stored somewhere on the board.

for example, my 94 has 280k on it, but the replacement has like 150k on it.
I want the replacement to read 280k so my car is legit and I am quite proud of it actually.

So I guess it is on the Main board.
I just took the 2 clusters apart and swapped all the good motors and stuff to my old one.
works great now. thanks.
