I plan on buying either a 92 or 93 SC 300 maybe 400, I was wondering, what type of coolent these cars use for the AC system. Also could the 97+ front bumper and tail lights fit? Anyone with this car could you post any problems you have had. Thanks...

Get a 93 if you can. It has the new refrigerant, dual airbags and dual 8 way power seats. It also has a few other goodies I believe like a outside temp gauge. Cool

No 93 still used R12, and it does not has out side temp. gauge either. I know that 94 used R134a; don't know what year SC has out side temp.
The difference between 92 and 93 are pass air bag, auto head lights switch.
VQT 93 SC400

GREAT CARS.........
The major difference is the pass. air bag...
If you are worried about the AC high price of freon on any car... you can retro-fit it with the R-134 from any part store for $35.00 and just vacuum the existing freon out and add the fittings, refill with the supplied 134 it takes 20 minutes top... I did it on my SC4 a few weeks ago.
There is a thread with the info on the '97 SC bumper on the forum, just take a little time to scroll through previous threads... Also the rear lights, every one knows how I feel about the rear lights with the chrome inserts that look pint thru the lens on the '97-'00... (keep the '93 rear) IMO... Contact "Rthammar" on this forum he did the the change(rear) on his '92 SC thread "My SC400 1992"...
Just check out the threads, every few days there is a thread about pros and cons about purchasing a SC model... Check'em out... Let me sum it for you... Great cars!!! look out for... power steering leak could cause alternator to fail, nak cd changer problem sucks... Check out the threads for more info if you don't get the info you need.. Good luck in your search...

$35.00 for the entire kit, it has every thing you need, oil, r-134, fittings, install hose, etc... Buy no more... You don't need a dryer, a flush kit, lines o-rings, nothing... (they will try to sell you all of this other mess, don't do it!!!)
Very IMPORTANT!!! You need to get the system vac out typically around $20 - $30 bucks and do the rest of the work yourself... a 1st grader could do it...
Some guys I know just let the old freon out them selves by pressing the valve like you let the air out of a tire valve stem... It's illegal to do so... Because of the o-zone and global warming... Other than this it is as easy as 1 - 2 - 3 ...

Not as cold as the old R-12.....
I'm from MS. HOT AS HELL! Moving to TX, HOT AS HELL!
The R-134 works fine... on any car pre '94... The only difference is that I needed to turn the fan up 1 bar higher at 1st...
However, once you get going it works as cold as the R-12 at a fraction of the price..
R-12 $35 - $45 pound(actually 14 oz.) depends on the shop you go to... You will need at least 3 cans
Labor $30 (you can't buy it yourself... or install it without a license)
If you have a minor leak, they will not leave in the system... until the leak is found and repaired...more $$$$. With r-134 if you have a minor leak so what, just add a can 2 or 3 months down the road for $4.99...
Go for it for the $$$ and the availibilty... If it is working fine, (no leaks, etc) stay with the R-12.. After a couple more years, you are not going to have a choice anyway...

I believe that's the valve... You would know by the temp. of the AC blowing warmer in the interior... once it's all out... I got mine vac'd by a friend that told me I could have let out the r-12 myself... I chose to get it vac'd. But here's what others have done/ are doing with the same results.
1. put in one can of r-134 oil.
2. run the ac
3. turn off ac
4. let out again
5. put 2nd can of r-134 oil with leak stop in it
6. follow instructions for kit.
Remember it's against the law to let out freon yourself. Even with the small fee of vacuuming it's still worth it...

The front nose parts are interchangeable, the taillights from the 97-00 won't fit unless you trim your rear bumper cover or use the 97-00 rear bumper and side rear filler panels. At that point you would also need the side skirts to match or else it won't look too good.
