$12k for a 95 5-speed

$12k for a 95 5-speed?
hey everyone, im trying to get a response as to what i should offer this guy for his 95 sc300 5-speed gold emblem package with 60k miles, he wants 12k but i looked up the value for the car on kelley's blue book website and it said something like 10,500. the car is in perfect condition except for the slipping clutch, yet another reason why its not worth 12k. i was thinkin id probably offer around 9 being that the clutch is worn, what does everyone think? whats is a reasonable price?

60k is low mileage.. still pretty new...
if i was the seller i probably would let go for no lower than 10k.
12k does seem a little steep.. i think kbb is right, 10.5 is a perfect balance imo.

depending on the overall condition of the car and mileage i think he's asking for a little
to much, but the right price because you won't find many low milage 5 speeds out there right now and if you did someone would jump on it before you and offer them more than you're willing to pay. i would think if the clutch didn't have to be replaced 12k would be a decent price. but in this care i think you should try to talk him down to 11k-11.5k unless you could talk him down more.
goodluck on your buy. i think you should jump this cuz if i were selling a low mileage sc i'd be asking for just as much if not more just for the rareity and street value of the car.

If I'm a non desperate seller there is no reason to let this car go for under $10,000. Forget the book value being accurate. Bottom line is there will be more buyers for a 60,000 mile 5 speed than sellers. After the car gets a complete pre inspection make a reasonable offer but 9 grand is unlikely to work unless they are desperate.

street value means nothing to a loan officer, even if it had a 2jz gte id only be able to get a loan for what the car is worth and its simply not worth 12k, and i definately dont have 12k cash in my account so i will need a loan, if i had the cash it would be in my driveway already

regardless of rarity im not paying more for a car than its worth, thats just plain stupid, no offense to anyone, but i could take that extra 2k and buy a 1jz front clip

then i suggest you go get an auto and save yourself some money. it may mean nothing to the loan officer, but could mean everything to the seller remember it's him selling the car and not your loan officer. i'm sure you're getting it because you studied sc's for a while and for the fact that it is somewhat rare and you've been looking for one and that's why you want one.
and i totally agree with OLT. if i were the seller i would stay firm with that price.

Judging by what I'm reading here, I'll get no where near what I'm asking for my car. The car here sounds like it's worth 12k but if you enthusiasts don't think so, how can I get 18k for my car. It's got 54k miles and over 12k in mods and looks new. I was thinking of lowering to 16k but I guess even that's too high. I'll trade it in to a dealer before I let so called enthusiasts low ball me. No biggie...I'll be happy to keep her. She's bad.
Back to the car in this thread. If it's in great shape with low miles, the price sounds fine to me. I probably would offer a little less to see if I could get away with it. Clutch is nothing. Even the most expensive cars wear out clutches.

I boguht my red 95 sc 5speed back in march 2004 with 66K miles in excellent condition for 13000 from a dealership so I say that is a good price. However the kbb at that time stated 12500 for the chicago region so I don't know by how much it would differ after a year and the fact that you are in Iowa. I say go for it!!!! By the way I got 80K miles on the car now....that isn't normal it???

the true "market value" for the car in those parts won't be anyware near 12K.
A 10 year old RWD car in the snow belt does not fetch 12K, more so with a slipping clutch.
Offer them 9k and let them work you up to no higher than 10K.
The car could only be considered in "fair" condition due to the cluch. The blue book for middle of iowa on the car is only $9,125.
